Traveling to Phoenix next week and after dunning the marathon, looking for things to do. Good value golf courses, restaurants, hiking, scenic tours, etc
Staying at Marriot Canyon Villas.
Thanks

We found a very cool driving range here in Scottsdale a couple of weeks ago.

My husband enjoyed this golf course in Tempe.

If you like architecture, you could visit Taliesin West in Scottsdale.

I love the Desert Botanical Garden.

We just got back from Phoenix last weekend. We stayed at the Villas of Cave Creek, which is closer to Scottsdale than anything else. We took a drive through the Marriott there. Looks nice. There's a new mall right across the street from the Marriott property with lots of restaurants and stores.

We took several trips north. Our favorite was Sedona. Look on line; there are great trails to be hiked. Been there before but never stopped at the places along the way. We stopped at Montezuma Castle (cliff dwellings) and I wish we had more time to look through Jerome. It was an old mining town built on the side of a mountain. It looks like the artsy hippies who couldn't afford Sedona anymore went there. My sister and her husband said there's a very interesting town museum in an old house. It looks like a movie set. We were in a rush to get to Sedona in the late afternoon for the good pictures, otherwise we would have stopped. We also stopped at Camp Verde. They had a nice museum there about this area as a army post in the 1800's.

Don't go to the Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse. It's touristy and fair food.

Our brother-in-law took us to the fancy Scottsdale Gun Club. My husband got to shoot a machine gun. I think walk-ins are allowed. My husband had to fill out releases (obviously), pay, and watch a safety video. My sister-in-law said that they have memberships there that cost upwards of $20 thousand a year.

Have fun.

We hiked Camelback Mountain which was right in town when we stayed at the SVC at the Legacy. Great rooms and great trade. Just wish it'd been warm every day we were there, in March no less!

I second Jerome. I'd allow a full day for this. We got there mid-afternoon and there wasn't enough time to finish going through the museum. It's a very interesting town with many shops, restaurants, etc. Also a very nice view & the road getting there is an experience in itself.

For outstanding thin crust pizza, go to Oregano's (2 locations). For fine dining, try Wildfish in Scottsdale. Ocean Club (Kierland) and Eddie V's are also excellent restaurants.

There are two nice golf courses at the Marriott resort you're staying at, Palmer and Faldo. I really like the Faldo course. If you're lucky they will offer you a discount for staying at the Villas. For golf discounts checkout golfnow.com and sign up for their email notices for the best discounts at local courses. Being that this is the peak golf season none of the regular rates are a good value in my opinion.

Oops. I came here specifically to recommend it. We had lots of fun there. I lost a tie there. But, that was in another world long, long ago. :D

Oh JLB, of course a Branson boy like yourself would like it! I must admit, if you're with a large group they will accomodate you. Loved the ties (NO TIES ALLOWED so they cut them off of you and hang them up--over a million they claim) and even had fun dancing. The food was fair--but then fairly priced.

Hey, what is happening with our favorite Falls Steakhouse in Branson? Will they rebuild or after they saw the money did they run? Ruth

On the news the day it burnt they said they were going to put it right back up. The last time we went by it was still an empty lot.
