Considering buying into Starpoints since I already own a Starwood t/s. Where can I find out how many Starpoints are required to stay in Harborside Atlantis or St John in January? Is there a current posted on TUG or elsewhere on line? Any cautionary tips considering Starpoints as opposed to RCI Points would be appreciated? Specifically, is it easier to secure reservations using Starpoints or is it the same hit or miss like RCI?

Starpoints are only good for Starwood hotel stays, not the timeshare resorts. There are no black out dates for Starpoints, so using them for hotels is very simple and easy. You can earn Starpoints for Starwood hotel stays (paid) and on the Starwood American Express.

Staroptions are used for timeshare stays. If you already own a Starwood timeshare and have Staroptions with it (developer purchase or a requalified resale purchase), you should have access to mystarcentral.com. That is where the daily and weekly Staroption requirements are listed. You can use Staroptions at 8 months out to try and book any Starwood timeshare. High demand weeks are always difficult, especially at the resorts with a small number of units.

Check out the Hotel Based Timeshare Systems board for all the information on Starwood. Start with the Advice page on Starwood, http://www.tug2.net/advice/Starwood_Vacation_Network.htm.
