Going in two weeks on an exchange.

Will certainly get "mountain view" as an exchanger...can anyone suggest which bldg./floor to request? How do I avoid a parking lot view?

Thanks

We stayed in Hale 3 and would recommend it. None of the rooms in that building have any type of ocean view. However they all have a nice garden view. As long as you dont get stuck in the backside of Hale 4 you should be fine. Hale 3 has no backside only front facing. Its a beautiful resort you will love it..

We were there over Christmas and were given a "garden view" from which we could see the ocean. But, I most strongly concur with cp73 -- avoid the backside of Hale 4.

I was there in October, on an AC. When I checked in I asked for a garden view, as the grounds are lovely, but it was more to try to avoid an parking lot view. I was given an Ocean View, and was one happy camper! (I am not an owner) You never know you might get lucky and get an oceanview.

I agree that Hale 3 is a good request. Besides having great views of the gardens, it is close to the parking lot, so you won't have to walk far from your car. Also it is away from the beach so it was fairly quiet when we stayed there 2 years ago.

We've stayed twice in Hale 8 on the inside and it is great.

What you do not realize from the picture is that there is a parking garage under the resort and the elevator between 8 and 7 goes right to it. The garage is under that grassy spot between the two pools. The entrance is just above and to the right of the 'C' on the drawing.

Hotel Rooms?

Do any of you know where the hotel rooms are? I know the resort is mainly condos, but apparently there are a few hotel rooms, one of which I have reserved. Also, are they okay?

I think they are on the backside facing out into a parking lot. Not sure though.

There aren't any hotel room at Waiohai. There maybe some units which Marriott rents out like a hotel room but the entire resort is TS.

The other Marriott resort in Kauai is a combination Hotel/TS resort. Therefore it has all the stuff you'd expect of a hotel.

Well I certainly wouldn't mind getting a villa for the price of a hotel room, but this is what our reservation, which is definitely at Waiohai, says:

Number of rooms: 1
You have requested:
Room type: DELUXE GUEST ROOM * NO VIEW

(I'm a little worried about the "no view" disclaimer. Does this mean no windows?!!!) I could always cancel, of course. I have a backup reservation at the Sheraton.

Anyway, thanks for your info., Northern Willy and Bill.

Wrong. There are 6 or 7 Hotel type rooms. We have stayed in one.
Tried to rent one for 3 nights last October, but all reserved.
No view. Not in Hale 4. Our window overlooked the destroyed resort next door. The room seemed smaller than the Guest bedroom of the 2 bedroom Villa.Apparently, these Hotel rooms were a requirement by Kauai ... and they do exist.

Sounds like a bad thing that they exist. At the same price, would we be better off with one of the "garden view" rooms at the Sheraton?

The garden view rooms at the Sheraton are not very nice --- they're across the street from the main part of the property, and fairly dingy inside. Luckily when we stayed there we were able to upgrade to an ocean view for some extra $$$.

WOW!! I had no idea.

Thanks for correcting me.

jillk,

Haven't stayed at the Sheraton, but at Waiohai, it is rather nice to just go out the door and be within the lush tropical landscaping and a very short walk to Poipu Beach/ocean.
Just don't look out the window ... our room anyway.
But maybe a good photographer could do a nice "arty" shot of the ruins?
What I don't know is whether the Hotel type rooms are scattered throughout the property or grouped together. Maybe a call to the resort front desk could clarify?
