I am buying a ff weeks resale that I won on ebay for $1.00. The seller only stated the maintenance charge in the ad & left out the fact that there are $136 in taxes & a $22 "reserve fee" that the resort charges each year. After seeing the maintenance bill with all those extra charges, I knew why he was willing to let it go for $1.00. I would have liked to forget the whole thing, but I didn't say anything to him about it. I just paid it. He had me completely set up the closing myself. Any time I've purchased before, the seller did that.

I hired timetravelltraders.com to prepare & record the deed. Timetraveltraders sent him the deed to sign and send back. He just emailed me that since he had to have it witnessed & notarized, he incurred $15.00 in expenses that he expects me to reimburse him for. He's in Canada, so it might cost more there. I really thought it was very petty of him to ask me for the $15.00 even though I guess he's veiwing it as part of the closing costs. What do you think?

Pretty Petty

I don't have to pay to have papers notarized at my N.J. bank. I would have told him if he didn't want to complete his part of the transaction, he could have his wonderful timeshare back. :annoyed:

MIMI,

That would have been the perfect answer! Why didn't I think of that? Stupid me emailed him back "O.K. I'll send your $15.00 along with the $1.00 I still owe you."

I wish all the sellers I have dealt with would have let me set up the closing! most charge $400-500 plus transfer fees. Timetraveltraders was your best bet. $1 for the timeshare, Can't do better than that! sounds like you have a comunication issue. and in that instance the burden is with the buyer to do your Due Diligence on getting all the info. Timeshare ads are seldom accurate. most sellers don't have a clue as to what they actually have. sounds like you got a pretty good deal to Me! asking for the $15 may be petty, but in the big picture it's kinda not relevant! consider that the person who sold the unit to you for $1 may be the poor sap who paid developer price :D I think you made a good trade!

Absolutely petty. And just by the by, if he lives in Canada, we have much different rules for notarization of documents here. He will not doubt be charged as he will have to attend before a lawyer or, depending on what province he lives in, a notary public.

I own a TS week in CA, where like FL taxes are also billed separately, and have noticed that often resellers of CA resorts often neglect to include them in their ads. My resort bills 2x a year, and have even seen some sellers only quote the 6-mo fee without clarifying that! Not to mention, some resellers don't give current mf's in their ads, but fees from the past. So calling a resort first and confirming mf's + taxes would always be wise before bidding, which I'm sure is a lesson you've already learned.

The $15 is in fact part of the total closing cost of the transaction, negligible, and you already saved big $$ by using ttt, when compared to many ebay closing costs of $1 timeshares, which require the use of much more expensive companies. Consider yourself fortunate that you got to choose closing company on your $1 purchase. I wouldn't expend anymore energy thinking about the $15.

If somebody is willing to sell an interval that I want for $1, I would be happy to pay a $15 cost of selling. Otherwise, he's in the hole $14.

Petty yes. But I would pay it - with one stipulation - if he incurs any more fees associated with this transaction, and he expects you to reimburse him, he must first advise you of the situation. That way, you can say no in advance, if what he is claiming is outlandish.

Thank you for all of your responses. I have every intention of paying it. $15.00 would not be worth argueing about. I just thought it was rediculous that he asked for it.

I know the timeshare was only $1.00 and that he is probably very upset that he has to dump it after having paid developer price. However, he put it up on ebay with no reserve with opening bid of $1.00, 2 weeks before maintenance was due. I was the only one who bid. He could have been stuck paying another year of maintenance for a week he'd never use.

He never specified in the ad who would pay the closing costs or how it would be handled. I just assumed it would be me because that is generally how it is done no matter what the selling price is. I don't think that the selling price has anything to do with this. I assumed since there was no mention of anything else, that standard operating procedures would apply. I have never been asked to pay for someone else's signature to be nortized before. I incurred a lot of incidental expenses such as express mail and what not, and I didn't even give it a thought.

Even after I found out the total cost per year and was sorry I ever bid in the first place, I stuck to my end of the bargain. I even took the risk of paying the maintenace bill directly to the resort, before the transfer took place because it was already due. I have absolutely no protection because timetraveltraders does not provide escrow service. I have been more than fair with this person. I could have asked him to pay it himself and reimbursed him after the closing.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I still think he had a lot of nerve to ask for the $15.00.
