We're going to be staying for two weeks in the UK and do not want to drive. The first week will be at Stratford Upon Avon, the second in London. We've checked the prices for the Britrail pass and they are out of sight! Has anyone ever tried bus travel? What is the best line?
Also, as far as electricity goes, can I use a converter to plug in my Ipod charger, or any other charger for that matter? And lastly, I know my cell phone won't work there. Is it best to purchase a phone card or is there a way to upgrade my cell phone temporarily? Thanks for any help. |

No idea if GNER will take you where you want to go, but it's worth looking into. http://www.gner.co.uk/GNER/default.htm
I took the train from London Kings Cross station to central Edinburgh last August. It took about 4 hrs and stopped at numerous places in England along the way. I did find the website a little confusing with all the different ticket prices, so once I figured out what train I wanted, I called and booked over the phone. The price they gave me by phone was MUCH less than I thought I'd have to pay on the web (probably less than half - I think it cost us something like 30-40 GBP pp round trip). The train ride was quite pleasant and comfortable. There was a dining car and food trolley to feed us as well. For the iPod, you can buy a world kit from Apple. It comes with the standard US plug to use from the iPod to an outlet, then a series of adapters that you just snap onto the plug to convert it. It worked fine for me. Don't know the answer to the last question. Good luck and have fun! Pam |
