Question Misses flight?

I may have read the answer to this before but what do the airlines do (specifically American) if you miss a flight due to weather. In other words we're flying into JFK from Buffalo to catch a flight to Heathrow. Not the same airline. What do they do if you miss your flight.

Ticketed on the same ticket, or separate tickets?

If separate tickets, you're out of luck if you miss your second flight, and you'll have to pay the change fee and the fare difference to be re-ticketed.

If ticketed by one airline, the ticketing airline is responsible for putting you on the next available flight, at no charge to you.
