St Lucia car rental

We are going to windjammer landing in March and was shocked to see Hertz quote $950/week for a standard vehicle. Any advice for a rookie? Thanks, Stephen

Only 1 bit of advise, use cabs. You can get a cabbie to give you an 8 hour tour of any part of the island for about $150. You also get tidbits of knowledge along the way that you would not get exploring on your own.

Its a beautiful island, you'll have a great time.

I rented from a local company, and I remember the rental being pricey, but not nearly that much! I also well remember the first taste of the island, a long drive in from the airport over a road that made those in the Balkans look well cared for. But it is a great island, and one I plan to go back to sometime.

I second that! Had a wonderful time on beautiful St. Lucia but would never want to drive there. Roads are winding and narrow and signage is minimal. We used cabs and found the drivers to be very friendly and knowledgeable, pointing out various sites along the ride.

I, too, have been to St. Lucia and would never consider renting a car. The roads are worse than you can imagine. Take a cab or just enjoy the scenry, restaurants and activities around the resort. We loved our visit to Windjammer Landing and St. Lucia.
