I would like to know how early can you go to the airport and go to your airline in person to request exit row seats. If it is 24 hours before my flight, I think I will go the day before just to get my seating assignments. It is worth it to me since it is a 9 hour flight. Help!

As an elite ff member on NW, I can select exit row seats weeks before the flights on their online seat map, and make it a point to do so. On an upcoming flight, for example, I have the window seat on an exit row on all four segments operated by NW, but have to wait to select a seat on the segment operated by KLM.

Most airlines will not let you check in at airport more than a few hours before flight time. If I were you, I would check in online 24 hours ahead of time, then get to the airport early to see if you can get an exit row seat. If nothing is available at that time, check in with the gate agent as soon as they show up. There may be other flyers who will get upgraded thus freeing up exit row seats.
BTW, which airline and route?

Some airlines will let you book Exit Rows when you purchase your ticket. I've done so on JetBlue several times.

The last time we flew on United, they wanted to charge extra for the exit rows. These were considered their "Coach Plus" (or whatever they call it now) seats with the extra leg room in the front of the coach section that they charge more for. Guess they can do that if the plane's not full. We didn't pay it, but I noticed that there were empty exit row seats.

On Delta and US Air, I was able to book my seats when I book my flights on line even using ff miles/tickets. When Delta does thier thing and change my flights, I call in and get my seats rebooked. Going from LAX to OGG, we want the aisle and window row. Thier planes have rows with only 2 seats. (2+3+2)
With Southwest, I just make sure I get a A boarding pass. Kids board then I board away from the kids. ![]() That coach plus with United is a bunch of crap. My son a Medallion member with Delta wont fly United because they pulled that on him. Too bad he flies alot. Last edited by talkamotta : February 5, 2007 at 10:04 PM. |

NW has premium seats in coach which cost regular passengers $$$ to get, but if you have elite status you can book them at no cost. Exit row seats aren't always bookable when I first select seats, but they do open up, at least for elites, weeks before the flight.
