Where in Mazatlan can I rent a cell phone?
How much do they charge?
We will be at the Marina El Cid and the El Cid Towers and will also go to the Gigante for groceries. Anywhere near any of those??

Thanks,
Judy

There was info on this on MazInfo today (was that you who asked?). You may be able to pick up a phone at Gigante, or if not, certainly at the mall...there are several booths there.

Sim cards for cell phones

Has anyone ever bought a sim card for their cell phone and tried it out? They have some on e-bay and the idea seems to be allright. I know that one of our cell phones is "unlocked" but I am not sure about the other one. How do you tell if your cell phone is "unlocked"? I thought about having international added to and then taken off the phone to cover during the period we are in cancun but the sim card seems to be an idea to be considered.

The easiest way is to try a SIM card from another carrier.

So for example, if you have service with Cingular, borrow a SIM card from a friend with T-Mobile service, put it in your phone, and see if it works. If the phone is locked, you'll likely see a message about "subsidy unlock code" (or something like that) when you power on the phone.

Many US carriers will give you the code to unlock your phone if you've been a subscriber for a while -- it doesn't hurt to call and ask.
