I did a search on the bicycle rentals at Marriott Grande Ocean and all the information is seems to date to last year.

What I need is the 2/19/07 bicycle rental situation, so I am looking for replies from people who have been at MGO the past month or two.

My questions:

1. Does Marriott rent anything more elaborate than coaster/beach bikes? In other words, something with gears and hand operated brakes?

2. What is the cost per week? For 1 bike? For 2 bikes?

Thanks

We were there in January. I believe the fee was $25 per week or $10 per day per person. We rented directly from Marriott. They supplied us with a lock and a basket for the front of the bike. . . good for an extra jacket, water bottles, camera and other assorted "stuff." With the exception of size, the bikes are all alike. They all have peddle brakes and no gears. Since I was spoiled by my back home bike, I thought I would not enjoy this bike. I was wrong. . . everything is flat and there really is no need for extra gears. Riding on the beach was a lot of fun as the sand was very compact. The seats are big and comfy. We rode about 10 miles on most days and had a great time. We were going to bing our own bikes, I am glad we did not. When we go back again we will definitely rent from Marriott again.

We have stayed at Grande Ocean many times, and riding bikes is our favorite pasttime. We rent from the Marriott, and paid $25/week last year. The advantage to renting from Grande Ocean is that you get a bike pass to Sea Pines Plantation, which has the best bike trails on the Island. However, we have gotten past the guard by holding up our car pass to Sea Pines on occasion. They seemed to be checking more closely last year.

Pedals is a good bike shop very near the Grande Ocean, and they rent a variety of bikes. Here's a link to their website, although you will have to call them for pricing http://www.pedalsbicycles.com/rentals.html. I believe all the bike shops on Hilton Head will deliver your bike.

One word of caution - if you decide to take your own bike, don't ride it on the beach. One of my children ruined their bike doing that.

Have a great time - it's our favorite spot! Will be there 5/25.

Also, the bike shop at GO will inspect your daily (if you ask them) and made necessary repairs to your bike onsite and that is plus!

Enjoy your week at GO.

Would anyone happen to know if Grande Ocean gives bike passes for Sea Pines to anyone staying there for the asking, or are they only available to persons who rent from the bike shop?

Sea Pines bike passes are given out at the bike shop (1) to GO owners and (2) to anyone else staying at GO who rents at least one bike from the shop. You might convince someone to make an exception, but that's the policy.
