Resort Closings, Inc. / go_vacations

I'm purchasing a TS from go_vacations on Ebay and Resort Closings, Inc. is handling the closing. Both of them are located in Bozeman, MT. Wondering if anyone has done business with them and how it went. Thanks.

The two companies are owned by a pair of brothers, Matt and James Tarpey. They are honest but slow in closings. What's nice is that you can go to their web site and see the closing person's notes. What's bad is you will see an entry requesting a check for recording fees and see the deed ship for recording 3 weeks later.

Make sure you know what you were promised and read the contracts carefully and review the property description with the closing person, this is how mistakes get found before it's too late.

But they will get it done and frankly what's the rush if you week isn't coming up soon anyway I suppose.

I do find their closing fees to be much higher than the norm for the big slow guys. And they are probably the slowest of the bunch. But here you have no choice and they will not negotiate fees.

Just checked my files on their web site, I've had ten closings in total with them, the oldest in 11/04, the newest just recently. No tangible issues on any.

Thanks for the info, John. The closing fees totaled about $550 but I factored this into my bid price. Bought a Falcon Pointe studio during ski season (wk 1-14 and 48-50), annual usage, $285 annual M&T, for $100 on Ebay. Falcon Pointe is 5 star on II and I think it's a decent resort. Surprised it went as cheap as it did but that's probably because it's a 350 sq. ft. studio, (basically a hotel room with kitchenette) plus the high closing costs.

They handled a closing for me for an ebay purchase. Everything went smoothly and I was pleased with them. It did take some time, but not totally unrealistic.

We have had frustrating eBay experiences with both Sellingshares and Go Timeshare. Our original contracts were completed by Matthew Tarpey. We purchased an oceanfront Pono Kai unit on 11/13/06 through Sellingshares. We received a letter from Resort Closings on 12/27/06 indicating the transfer was complete. Great! But when the deed arrived, it was for the wrong Building and Unit#. You really need to check the fine print! Since we already own another timeshare at Pono Kai, we know the difference between Building B (oceanfront) and Building H which is far off-ocean! After calling the closing agent, Katie, I was told that her paperwork indicated our unit was in H. I insisted that I had a copy of the eBay ad, which clearly stated it was in B. After Katie checked with Mr. Tarpey, she phoned me to indicate the mistake was theirs, and they would correct it. We graciously completed and notarized all the paperwork to rescind the incorrect deed and papers for the new deed preparation were faxed and completed without delay. We are still waiting for the deed in order to reserve a week this summer. The second experience involved a 2br Kona Coast winning bid with Go Timeshare on 12/08/06. The annual maintenance fee, which increased for 2007 was inaccurate, so we were asked to send additional money on 1/18/07, by Alice, who explained that she was new. After that, the original deed was mailed to us within a reasonable time. After about a month of failed attempts to secure a reservation with Kona Coast, I asked to speak to Owner Relations. Days later, we were advised by accounts receivable at Kona Coast that Resort Closings failed to send the appropriate transfer fee, which caused the process to stall. After phoning the closing agent, the matter was finally resolved.

It seems like with all timeshare closing companies, I pay good money to turn into an obsessive compulsive nag! I hate it, but after I send off paperwork to any of these companies it is hassle hassle hassle until the job gets done right. UGH!

Resort Closing Inc.

We used Resort Closing for a resale purchase. They quoted a Resort transfer fee which we questioned prior to closing.After closing we were informed the fee was $ 3500. higher than the original quote. After many e-mails and phone calls and discussions with their lawyer ,they agreed to absorb the extra costs. Fortunately we communicated by e-mail and had records of conversations. This may have been an isolated problem?? Ask all questions and keep all records , e mails allow you to go back and check the facts as stated.

Terrible Communication

I dealt with Resort Closing in the last 2 months. Communication was absolutely terrible. Within 2 good months of January and February, I called 4 times but nobody seemed to know details of the progress. Finally, I received the warranty deed, and with a phone call, I was able to confirm it with the resort that I am the new owner and there is no outstanding fees.

The final outcome is the same, but it seems Resort Closing doesn't know how to communicate with the customer. They should have sent regular emails to update me the progress.

I'm not saying that Resort Closings is the best run business on the face of the earth, but being able to check the closing progress online at their website meant for me that I could see when progress had occurred and recognize when I needed to send a reminder email or make a phone call. My closings have taken 2 months or less.

Update

I recieved my deed for the new TS last week and the new resort transferred the ownership into my name earlier this week. As it turned out, Resort Closings got it all done in about 5 weeks. I dealt with a rep named Reva who I thought did an excellent job. I really liked the fact that you can see the status of your closing on their website, which takes a lot of the mystery out of it. I will say that I paid for the TS immediately and also emailed the paperwork back to them the same day, so there was no delay on my part.

Resort Closings And Others

[COLOR="Navy"]I I buy/sell on eBay and do my own closings. I had a bad experience with Resort Closings, sloppy detail work, wrong property owner, deed, etc. Had to get a refund on the sale. They still owed me about $100.00, never refunded

Ask whatever closing service you use to send a conformed copy of the deed along to the recorder when recording, that means 2 exact deeds. 1 with a sticky on the copy says "copy" and self addressed stamped envelope to the closing company clipped to copy.

It's returned within a couple of weeks from the recorder with a stamp and acceptable to the resort for transfering ownership. The original recorded deed may take months to be returned, it doesn't matter, the transfer has already been made.

It outrages me that this co. charges such steep fees, people have to wait so long and they don't do what I do. Demand It!![/COLOR]

Use the search feature on TUG - RC has been discussed here previously (by me and others)
1) You should be aware that the 'legal' consul for RC is not registered with the Montana State Bar (a definite 'no-no').
2) Our purchase went smoothly - without a hitch - and quite quickly considering it was in the USVI.
3) They misrepresented the property that we bought on their eBay ad, but it was to our benefit (meaning we got it cheap because the incorrect ad kept bidders away).

I have two ebay purchases closing with Resort Closings currently. Everything is progressing nicely and I like being able to see each step online via their website. Email and telephone communication has been good as well.

I bought two weeks from one ebay ad because as sellers they didn't check out the product sufficiently. They were advertising one week but the maintenance fees seemed high. So I phoned the resort and learned that the package was indeed two weeks, not one.

So it worked out very well to my advantage!

I was trying to purchase a timeshare through Matthew Tarpey and Kristy Thompson (both of whom were very friendly). My problem came into play when I started working with Marisa. I received no response from her and whenever I tried to engage Matthew and Kristy, their attempts at trying to get a response from Marisa also failed. After trying to communicate with Marisa for over 2 months with absolutely no success. I finally sent Matthew and Kristy an email providing ample documentation of my attempts at communicating with Marisa, including dates and times of phone calls and copies of all of my emails. Included in that final email to Matthew and Kristy was a request to cancel the purchase. A few days later, I received a call from Marisa (the first call and only call) apologizing and trying to get me to reconsider. At that point, I was too frustrated to even give it another shot. So they honored my cancellation.

I was disappointed to lose the timeshare, but sometimes the aggravation isn't worth any price (IMHO).

I did my research on this company and there were numerous others who indicated that they were slow but good to work with. But since Marisa hadn't responsed to any of my questions in over 2 months - that seemed a little too slow for my liking.

Never Again with Timeshare Closings

Would never use that firm again. Their website showed that my funds were received, and then nothing else for 4 weeks. They forget about my account, until I sent them an email. The ebay seller finally had to do the closing themselves.
