We're planning our ski trips for the next couple of years. We own at MountainSide, but we've been there four years in a row now so we're looking for a little more variety. We've stayed at the Marriott Breckenridge and Vail properties before and weren't very impressed, particularly with the Vail properties.

I see that II has has some good looking Hyatt properties at Aspen, Breckenridge, and Beaver Creek. Has anyone had any success trading their Marriott week for a Hyatt week at any of these resorts? How do they compare to Marriott quality?

Another place we're considering is The Village at Steamboat and WorldMark Steamboat Springs. Any feedback on trading into this resort? Quality?

They Hyatt in Breckenridge is awesome (and in my opinion superior to Marriott Mountainside for furnishings, etc.). Don't have any experience about the others. Is Tahoe an option? There's a Hyatt there as well. The Marriott Timberlodge in Tahoe is quite nice (and also right next door to teh gondola). My guess is you've have a much better chance of an exchange to Timberlodge with the internal priority than to a Hyatt.

Unfortunately, I'd say your chances for that trade would be very small.

Because Hyatt controls what weeks it gives to II -- instead of individual owners depositing weeks -- very, very few ski weeks ever make it to II. In 4 years of trading on II and watching ski weeks very closely, I've only seen one 2BR Breck ski week pop up, and it was so late in flextime that I wonder if it was a late give-back.

By comparison, I see 2-3 Franz Klammer Lodge units in Telluride every year, and Franz Klammer is a much nicer and as demanded property.

A Mountainside ski week is going to have tremendous trading power, but what you're fighting here is the minimal amount of weeks Hyatt delivers.

I'd deposit early and put the search in asking for both Hyatts in Breck and Beaver Creek. If it hasn't hit by 3 months out, I'd add Grand Timber Lodge in Breck, which is also a very nice property and has much more availability.

If you put Grand Timber in immediately, my guess is you'll get Grand Timber before you get the Hyatt.

I would follow this advice EXCEPT I wld do a "Request First" with II - this way if the trade doesn't happen, you still have your ski week in Park City.

And is there a Westagate resort in Park City? Avery recently posted this was a luxury resort nicer then the Marriott Mountainside. - she visited this month.

We stayed a The Village at Steamboat in 2005 and it was a decent property. The property is owned by Worldmark and VI, but share the same resort. The VI units face the mountains and the second bedroom is more of a loft. But, we did enjoy our stay, the unit was clean and in good condition. It is not of Hyatt quality, but is nicer then some of the Vail Marriott propterties. I would not hestiate to take The Village at Steamboat again as trade. I would not trade my Hyatt points for this, but I would be willing to trade my RCI Grand Cayman week. We went week 10 and used a winter RCI Grand Cayman week for the trade.
