We will be oing to The Galleon Resort in Key West Florida in December and I am trying to book flights on line from Pittsburgh PA. Flights to Key West is pretty expensive and I am looking for alternative airports to fly to and then drive on to Key West. Is that a good approach and would I be able to find parking in The Galleon. I allso hear that a car is often not needed in Key West. What is my best approach.
Thanks for all the good advice from the Tug Members.

The location of the Galleon is right in the heart of Key West most everything is in walking distance. You can try Ft Lauderdale or Miami airport and drive from there.I don't Know the parking situation at the Galleon .

You are entitled to one parking space per unit at the Galleon. They have parking under the buildings, as well as outside. Not assigned. The spaces under the units are very tight, so if you are getting a big car, it is better outside.

True you don't need a car in the Old Town area, where the Galleon is located, you would if you want to go shopping at the Publix, which is on North Roosevelt Ave, where most of the Commercial businesses are located.

I agree with Ft Lauderdale and Miami. The cost from Miami to Key West is about the same as, for me, Newark to Miami.

The drive is about 130 Miles, most of which is on 2 lane highway, so if there is an accident or something, there could be major delays. It is a pretty drive, though, especially over the 7 mile bridge. You could stop along the way for lunch and a break.

Delta just started service to Marathon a month or so ago. My guess is that it will probably have Key West - type prices, but it wouldn't jurt hurt to check.

Good information.

If you want to keep one of those prized covered parking spaces, figure out your groceries and go to the Publix and get them. Then park. Then, there is a market on the marina for the stuff you forgot. It also has a deli and seafood place. Get some steamed shrimp and crusty bread and take it back to you lanai for a lovely lunch.

In January, 2006, I noticed a pickup with Iowa plates in one of the parking spaces, so I struck up a conversation with the owner. We had friends in common. He said he pulls his pickup in a space, parks it, and leaves six weeks later.

But, if you are like us, you will want to drive around and see stuff.
