Transportation to Key West Florida

We will be going to The Galleon Resort in Key West Florida in December and I am trying to book flights on line from Pittsburgh PA. Flights to Key West is pretty expensive and I am looking for alternative airports to fly to and then drive on to Key West. Is that a good approach and would I be able to find parking in The Galleon. I allso hear that a car is often not needed in Key West.
Thanks for all the good advice from the Tug Members.
 
I own at the Galleon. Fly in to either Miami or Ft. Lauderdale, rent a car and drive down. The Galleon allows one car per unit for parking, and I have found that there are usually spaces available. Having a car is useful for going to the grocery store, restaurants, etc. Enjoy.
