VERY new here but I too have a question concerning beach area in SC, NC and Florida coast. My family was ready to go to our home resort Orange Lake Country Club for April 8 (our actual week and we own a 3 bedroom) when yesterday my husband told me we had to change the date to July
Rather than go to OLCC in July I thought it would be better to go to a GC Florida Coast, NC or SC resort with a 2 bedroom minimum (since my mom is coming, otherwise we could have put the kids on a pullout couch). I called a few times yesterday and today and cannot find a 2 bedroom :bawl:
I did take July 7 for a 3 bedroom at OLCC just so I have it (if I have to pay another exchange fee, so be it if I can get the beach) if I can't find anything else and since I have another week deposited for next Feb. I was able to have RCI do a search for July for above.
With only 1 br and stuidos coming up do you think my chances will be slim to none of getting a 2 bedroom GC?
Also, since you guys are VERY knowledgeable, how are you able to do a mock search. Like I see some people here say I just searched for these dates and this came up? I would LOVE to go on RCI and change my dates with my banked week to look but I don't want to mess up my Feb. search. I hope this all makes sense and I VERY much appreicate any and all help I, too, can get :whoopie: Thank you!

A thought I did not have on your other thread, now that I have read all of your post.

You will be much happier with a 3-bedroom at OL. You and the hubby can take the master and you can put either the kids or Mom in the suite at the front door, and whoever doesn't go there in the bedroom across from the master, also with it's own bathroom.

You would never be able to do that at the beach. Someone is going to wind up in the LR at the beach, even with the largest unit you could get, which you won't be able to get!

FWIW, Christmas Week in a 3-bedroom at OL, it was Mom (MIL) who took the sofa in the living room, and when we share the 1-bedroom units on the beach with friends, we normally take the LR. When we offer, and insist, it just simplifies things and puts everyone at ease.

Summer at the beach in NC and SC for 2007 is long gone unless you luck upon a late deposit or a cancellation. 3BR's are not that common, but where they exist get taken quickly. At this point, 2008 summer is getting sparce.

My advice at this point is to vacation in your 3 bedroom in Orlando. Enjoy Orlando and take a day trip or two to Cocoa Beach.
Put in an ongoing search ASAP for the summers of 2008 and 2009 at all of the beaches you'd like. Summer beach weeks are in high demand. Don't insist on a Gold Crown. A large number of the timeshares at the beach are standard resorts. They have location, so they don't have to put in golf courses, restaurants or other ammenities that could earn them a Gold Crown rating.

Thank you all very much!
My 3 bedroom at OLCC is confirmed and I still keep looking/calling for Florida coast. A week before President's week, I called about every 30 minutes for someplace warm in Florida and was very happy I was able to snag Palm Beach Shores Resort and Vacation Villas although we only needed one bedroom since it was just my husand, 2 kids and me. They don't usually have to sleep on a pull out when we go away but we wanted to get away last minute so we took it and were very happy. I would LOVE to go back there again, although I didn't think it was GC, but maybe the location made it that way.
I also extended our search for Caribbean thinking if something came up that was nice, I would take it but I keep getting DR. None of the properties look nice, at all! Although last night one seemed VERY nice with butler service, own villa and pool but for the 5 of us it was mandatory $699 A NIGHT!!!
If I can get something, fine, if not, I will be sitting on the concrete at OLCC in the middle of the summer, but it will still be better than a good day at work! :whoopie:
Thank you all VERY much for all your help. I have two weeks for April 08 I need to deposit and play with, after reading your posts regarding summer, I may deposit them today too.
Do you think I would have a shot at something like the Crane in Barbados for summer of 08 or even 09 (I drove by there in April while on a cruise) if I deposited my end of March/beg. of April 3 bedroom OLCC. Thank you all very much I am SOOO happy I joined here and everyone is SOOO helpful!
How do I do a quick search? Don't I need something deposited?

I belong to a Disney site and a Cruise site where if you say something wrong, people are all over you :ignore:
Thank you all again. I guess I will be doing lots of posting since I have LOTS of questions!

just did a trade test for you with a OLCC xmas week

I got 5/31/08 rockely and 8/16/08 bougainvillea, both 1 BR--that was it for all summer 2008 in Barbados. However, you should have excellent luck pulling a GC in Hilton Head for summer 2008--we have pulled with OLCC for 6+ years into HHI summer. You can start looking now, but I have found that most appear right around Labor Day for the next summer.
Hilton Head is a nice, upscale area with a lot of timeshares, so a bit easier to get than other places like Outer Banks. Quality of units on HHI tends to be quite good--lots of GC to choose from.
And, as others have said, beach weeks for Summer 2007 are gone. And, at least OLCC has the new waterpark to keep you cool.
