We just got back from our week in Vegas. It was a great week. We had so much fun. I sincerely appreciate all of the information I was given on TUG prior to my trip. I can not count all of the times I said "People on Tug recommended this" and " I should have asked about this on TUG". As usual what I read on TUG was all good information. I just wished I had of written some of it down before leaving. There is so much to do in Vegas, I could not begin to remember everything.
First things first, we stayed at Summer Bay. Yes, it is an older resort, but WOW were the employees friendly and helpful. We had a 2 bedroom, located at the back of the property, but when I told them only my husband and I would be there, we were asked if we wanted to switch to a 1 bedroom right on the front. We did and we were just behind the Flamingo less than a block off the strip. The location was great! And the suite was very roomy and had everything we needed. It was not luxury by any means but we were not complaining. I knew this going in, I went for location and was definitely not disappointed. It was a bit noisy at night, but no need to go on about this resort since it has been sold anyway. But I would say I would not hesitate to stay there again if it was possible.
I think my first choice would be the Hilton Grand Vacations at the Flamingo next time ( If I am ever lucky enough to get to go back to Vegas in this lifetime).
We ate good, I won show tickets playing a free slot thing at Alladin, actually I won something everytime I did their free slot thing, (cards, tickets and a tote). Cheap fun!!! We walked about a bagillion miles a day, rode the deuce, went downtown, went to the Hoover Dam, we ate at Terrible's, Margaritaville ( 3 times...loved it), Flamingo buffet (very good for the price... we had $5 off each person), we had Steak and lobster at Tony Roma's downtown for $10.00 and we ate the crepes in the Paris hotel 2 times (yummy!!!!). We ate very good for cheap. We could have definitely spent more on food there are so many places to choose from, but we chose to eat as good as possible for as little as possible. Food was not the reason I went to Vegas. I won $50 with a $5 free slot play coupon at Circus Circus, we played $2 craps at Slots O Fun, we saw the Siren show at TI, we saw the tigers at MGM, and we got 2 for 1 tickets to Gordie Brown and Folies Bergere. We enjoyed each show, for the free tickets at Allaidn we choose the Beetles show (Fab Four was the name I think) It was very good.
We did gamble a bit, not alot, but I did have beginners luck on a new table game (new to me anyway). It was a form of Texas Holdem, and I won $125.00. It was so much fun. Other than that we did a bit of craps, Blackjack and slots. I see now how people who don't gamble still love to go to Vegas. It was almost the last thing to do, so to speak.
The only thing I did not enjoy was our "trip" to the Grand Canyon. We had a rental car and drove ourselves after touring the Hoover Dam. After driving 21 miles on a dirt road, we got there only to find out it was closing in about one hour and we could only go to one lookout point but would have had to pay $66.00 for that. Geeze. I thought we could drive through ourselves. I did not understand that at the West Rim you have to park your car, get on the Indians bus, after paying them $66.00, to be driven there by them. What a rip off. Oh yeah, the $66.00 included a dinner coupon, but the place was a dump I would have never eaten there. I had no idea an Indian tribe controlled access to the Grand Canyon National Park. (West Rim) Is the the only place this is the case? I thought we would be able to drive through, maybe paying a National Park fee or something, not having to pay $66.00 to go to one lookout point. I was surprised and disappointed with this. But I did not let it ruin my trip. Just surprised. And I would not recommend this to others.
Thanks again for all of the advice about Vegas. Even being there 7 nights, we could not possibly see and do everything I would have liked to do. I will just have to go back!
