Hi - I'm looking to make a quick trip to NYC in early Nov. I checked Starwood and Marriott hotels, but the rates are outrageous. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good hotel in Manhattan, possibly something small and cozy for a romantic weekend but good location, service, quality and decent price? I don't mind spending a bit and know that's the norm for NYC, but less than $500/night would be good. :)

Thanks,
Pam

Your question makes you a natural for Priceline. All you care about is location and rate. You can specify this with them, make a bid and see what happens. You might check www.betterbidding.com to learn the process and get an idea of what kind of bids work.

One of my employees just got the Royalton Hotel (44th Street b/t 5th and 6th) for $225/night - a deal.

Thanks - I was already checking Priceline to see what would come up. Found a couple possibilities that might work out. I'll probably wait a little while longer and see what I can find.

I used to live in Ny and I travel to NY on business all the time.
The best source for NY hotels is quikbook.com. The rates are the lowest and you can make a reservation and cancel it without penalty. There is no fee.

Quikbook rates are always lower than Expedia. hotels.com or any other site.

The OP wanted romantic

I would not choose most of those as they are on the noisy and busy west side -- theater district.

I would try for midtown east

I have stayed at the Bedford -- it is not bad but not my first choice

If you can get the Jolly Madison on Quikbook (it's a thoroughly Italian hotel on E 38th Street), I would recommend it.

A wonderful choice is the Kimberly (usually more than the Jolly Madison) -- on e 50th -- rooms are really spacious -- lovely boutique hotel.

I have gotten both of these on Quikbook for less than 300 and sometimes less than 200!

Thanks so much for these suggestions. Looks like I have some research to do.

For now, I booked the CY Marriott Times Square based on location and TripAdvisor reviews, and I can get points for the stay. Rate was higher than most of those recommended here ($399/night) but still better than the first set of hotels I checked. In the meantime, I'll do some more research and see if I can find another option that works.

Thanks again!
Pam
