NC Mts, where to stay?
Hi
We’ll be staying at Fairfield Mounts and would like to spend another week in the area. Which of the following would be your first, 2nd and 3rd choices : Fairway Forest At Sapphire Valley FF Sapphire Valley Blue Ridge Village Highlands and Sugar Cedar Village Willow Valley Resort Foxhunt at Sapphire Valley Fontana Village Foxrun Townhouses Or stay at FF Mountains again Thanks all!

Our first choice would be FF Sapphire Valley. This is the area very near the SV recreation. Nice units and good amenities.
Fairway Forest and Foxhunt are each a couple miles from the rec area and IMO, not quite as nice. Foxrun is part of the same larger resort area as FF Mountains, with a townhouse style. Highlands and Sugar are in a pretty area. Willow Valley is near skiing. Fontana Village is rustic but with a lot of kid-friendly activities - sort of campy. I have not personally stayed in most of these, only visited, except for FF SV and Fairway Forest. HTH. |

Whatever you do - do NOT stay at Fontana Village. This is the only timeshare in almost 30 years that we left on Tuesday (could not bear to stay until Saturday). It was the worst place I have ever stayed. DON'T DO IT!!

We stay at Lake Lure a good bit, but we also love Blue Ridge Village in Banner Elk. There are two types of two bedrooms. One all on one floor and the other is a townhouse similiar to Lake Lure. We prefer the second plan. We love the area especially in July and August. I did a search a few years ago and compared the temps at Cashiers and Banner Elk. We live in the lower part of SC, and it is so hot. It was cooler at Banner Elk. We love the area more than Cashiers. It took too long to get to Cashiers and too isolated for us. The mountains are beautiful in the Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk area. BRV has lots of activities for the kids and free towel, linens, washing powder, etc. exchange daily. We love it there and will be there in our three bedroom unit in July.
Email me if you have any questions. Becky |

I second Becky's suggestion for Blowing Rock or Banner Elk. We'll be going to the Chetola resort in Blowing Rock in August and can't wait!

My vote goes for FF Sapphire Valley. If you do choose to stay there, don't pass up a chance to dine at Lulu's in Sylva (about a half hr drive from Sapphire Valley). It's my fave restaurant in NC. http://www.lulusonmain.com/
Not sure when you're going, but if you'll be there in mid-July, you're in luck. You can have a great time at Folkmoot, my favorite festival in the Southeast. http://www.folkmootusa.org/ Have fun, Joan! ![]() |

We stayed at Blue Ridge Village last summer and had a great time. Banner Elk is a great area with lots of hiking trails. Must say that the resort is in need of a refurb, but the staff was wonderful. My kids loved the paddle boats and those kept them occupied for hours.

Sapphire Valley. We stayed in Foxhunt (or is it Foxrun) as our first exchange and it was decent - not plush. FF shares some of the facilities and if Mica's restaurant is still there, do not pass up the lobster bisque!
I liked Cashiers being out of the way as I like to get away from it all. Good proximity to interesting shops, but not right on top of any action. no matter which area or resort you choose, it will be beautiful. |

Have any of you stayed at Willow Valley in winter? What's it like? In 2006 they apparently opened a new indoor/year-round pool w/hot tub and kiddie pool. How are the roads in winter?
Btw, Joan, at what general time of year are you planning to be in the NC mountains? Last edited by Lisa P : April 5, 2007 at 01:53 PM. |

Lisa,
Thanks for mentioning the indoor pool at Willow Valley. We will be at Blue Ridge Village the first part of May for a graduation in Boone. We will go by and take a peep. Becky |
