Not happy with Manhattan Club right now..
Please tell me if you think this is reasonable.
I have a week exchange for the MC starting next Friday. I will be coming in on Saturday. However, I have a friend that is staying with me for the weekend and will be arriving on Friday. I have to buy a guest certificate for my friend just because she's coming in one night ahead of me. So, on top of my $25 a day hospitality fee, I'm also paying $50 (or whatever the going rate is) for a guest certificate for her to join me. The supervisor wouldn't even speak to me on the phone. They said they didn't have to explain their policies and wouldn't budge. They refuse to put a note in my file mentioning that my friend is arriving one day ahead of me. The rep on the phone was extremely nice and apologetic, but very non-helpful. I'm extremely frustrated. Theresa |

Sorry,
I think they are right. It not like you're arriving a few hours later but you're the next day. What if you're delayed or don't show at all? If you are the person checking in, no guest certificate is needed, but when your guest checks in, they should have a guest certificate.

This must be a new policy. I have done this a ouuple of times before with my children checking in the day or 2 days before me. Perhaps because they have the same last name and address as me they let it go through, but no one has ever given me a problem with it.

I have done that a time or two at other resorts with no problem. This resort seems to be one of the worst for nickle and diming people.
I would call again, and remind them that you will be sending in your RCI report card, and hospitality like that and check-in problems like that will certain get them a ''1'' in at least those categories, maybe more if they keep acting like jerks and trying to nickle and dime you.

RCI's policy is that a GC is required... some resorts overlook RCI's policy and do you a favor, others don't. Manhattan Club has very close ties to RCI, so I'm not surprised to hear this.

I've had this experience with two resorts. Annoying, yes, but once I phoned and they said I needed a GC, that was the end of it for me. Doesn't hurt to ask if someone will bend the rules for my benefit - if they say no, nothing lost.

Thanks all for your feedback.
I'm 'over' it, but it just kills me to fork over $59 to RCI for no good reason. I even asked the reservation cleark if I could give them my credit card number. They were just very inflexible throughout the entire conversation. I understand the rules and have purchased guest certificates in the past. It just seemed silly to purchase one when I'm actually staying in the timeshare myself. I just hope they don't give me a hassle when I attempt to change the credit card from my friend's CC to my CC when I get there. I certainly don't want her to get charged the 'hospitality' fee. They are more like edicts that we are forced to live by. The "Rules" are "made up" by RCI. And changed on their whim. We are "members", but do we ever get to vote? I have no problem bitching and moaning about this absurd policy, and bypassing and getting away without paying this exorbitant fee if, and anyway, that you can. What do you get for the $50? They already got "their" exchange fee, which continually goes up, with less and less inventory. And we do all the work for them by using the internet. A Very Happy Camper in Williamsburg, Jim P.S. On two occasions, I have had folks check in early and NOT had a GC, though several years ago. At one time, they were accommodating. Last edited by HuskyJim : April 4, 2007 at 09:41 PM. |

Plan B
I had this situation with my son recently. The resort was quite cooperative, but, as it happened, we stumbled on a "loophole" in the rule. Unfortunately, it might not work at the Manhattan Club if they have a 24-hour desk. Should work at most places though.
Anyway, as always happens to me anyway, I notified the resort that I would be checking in late. My son followed the late check-in instructions and picked up the key. The next day I showed up...and then didn't even bother to stop by the desk and formally check-in until the day after that. I have had a resort desk call to remind me to stop by after a late check in the night before, but they've never been pushy about it or locked the room if I didn't show up right away. |
