The reviews of Sea Crest are dated back to 2004, so we were wondering if anyone has been there recently?? Also, we know August is going to be hot, hot, hot............but our other choice was New Bern, N.C.....if anyone has been there, let us know. We know we like HHI, never been to N.C, but the timeshare available there is Sandcastle Vlg and does not get good reviews either. Anyone? Thanks

Our first and only trip to HHI a few years ago, we stayed at the SeaCrest Surf and Racquet Club and enjoyed our stay.
OP prefer the gated communities, but I saw nothing wrong with the resort. And then we are not picky. We had access to the ocean front pool across the street, the walk is not bad. I also liked the closeness to Coligny Plaza where you can walk there for groceries, restaurants, bars and entertainment. Went to New Bern a few years ago and I did not like that place. The condo was nice but the area itself was very boring. We ended up driving 45 minutes everyday to Atlantic Beach. There is nothing to do in New Bern. Could not find any decent restaurants, no night activities (mini golf etc). Seemed everything shut down at dark I would go to the Sea Crest at HHI Last edited by happybaby : April 5, 2007 at 03:42 PM. Reason: addl info |

we are staying at Sea Crest this summer
This will be our 4th trip to HHI (fell in love with HHI after our first trip in 2004). We have previously stayed at Royal Dunes, Waterside, and Port O'Call (all 3 BR condos). When we were in HHI last year, I checked out the Sea Crest condos, since they often appeared on our searches. yes, they are smaller and not as "well decorated" as the condos we have previously stayed in.....but the location can't be beat. My 3 children (ages 17, 11 and 10) love the Coligny area, and the close proximity to the beach was another "selling point". So, I booked 2 units (one 2BR and a 1BR) for our stay in Aug., (my older son has been bringing a friend along for the past 2 years). I'm hoping we won't be disappointed, but after checking out the resort (I took the entire family w/ me, so they could see for themselves where we would be staying), and getting the 'thumbs up", we decided it would be fine for us.

I agree - I have seen the inside of Sea Crest (tho before 2004), not stayed there, but it met my criteria for cleanliness and acceptability, and the location IMO is better than most of the plusher plantation or any other TS condos in HHI except the Marriotts. When I'm "at the beach", I like to be step out my door and be on the beach, or there at most within a minute or 2 - in August you'll want to be in the ocean most of the time, as opposed to driving, walking or bike-riding - unless of course there's stormy weather (both people and tropical storms enjoy those sultry ocean temps).
For comparison, Sea Crest was way preferable to the even better-located but dumpier Adventure Inn, which I have stayed at and wouldn't again. New Bern isn't worth much more time than a lunch stop, IMO. |

Agree with previous posts...
New Bern would not even be a consideration. My mom owns at Sea Crest and we have exchanged in a few times. It is clean and the grounds are well maintained. The location is awesome. We're going to Hilton Head this June and will be staying on a planation for the first time. We will be curious to see if the larger and more modern unit at this resort will outweigh being in a location that we prefer. It's great to walk over to the beach or over to Coligny. We've also stayed at Waterside, a block up from Sea Crest. We did prefer this resort to Sea Crest because we like the units better and the fact we can still walk or bike ride to the beach and Coligny. But if Sea Crest were my only option, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there.
