Just found this interesting website on Slow Travel: http://www.slowtrav.com/

"What is Slow Travel?
Slow Travelers stay in vacation rentals around the world - apartments, villas, houses, cottages, cabins, condos that you rent by the week. Other terms used for these types of rentals are self-catering, tourist rentals, holiday rentals, holiday cottages, agritourism (Italy), Gites (France).

Basing yourself in a vacation rental makes for a different, slower, vacation. You stay longer in one place and get to know one area in depth. ..."

Don't know why timeshares wouldn't fit in the above definition too! The website looks like it might have some valuable information for those of us who like to travel.

Thanks, it looks like a great site to explore.

Love Slow Trav

It is a very good site. Best for Italy but good for other countries in Europe as well. We were in Italy for two weeks, one in a timeshare (review posted on TUGS) and one in an apartment in Rome (review posted on SlowTrav). Their reviews pages of apartments and restaurants are very good.

I learned to love slow traveling via timeshare travel and now if we can't get a TS we prefer to stay in apartments, spoiled by the extra space and kitchen. Really good info on their message board as well http://slowtalk.com/groupee

Slowtravel

This is so ironic. A fellow I work with in another division and I were talking after work a couple of weeks ago and got on the subject of trips to Tuscany. He told me about the great site ,Slow Travel, and what great luck they had had with it. They had made two trips to Tuscany through Slow Travel.

He had nothing but good things to say.

Cheers,

Paul

slow travel- is for slow travel

Yes, this is a great site- especially for Italy and France. I recommend it to all those traveling. However, the essence of the site is for people who are interested in savoring their travel slowly. In other words, a person who tries to do 6 countries in 2 days is not the kind of traveler that is envisioned here. Of course, anyone can read the information and partake of the advice but it really has its roots in a more leisurely style of travel. For the record, I am Jimster on that site too. :)
