How hard/expensive to fix a double-paned window with a leak?

We have a double-paned window that looks like either it was hit with a bb pellet or a bird. Whatever it was, it put a crack in one layer of the window so that now water can get in. To make matters worse, we have a gutter just above this window that happens to be pouring water out in the very same spot. So now the window has water stuck between the panes, and it's all fogged up.

Does anyone have any experience with repairing/replacing a double paned window? It also has fake french window lines in it.

The window needs to be replaced. The process of manufacturing these windows requires a permanent seal that is put around the layers after the air has been evacuated and re-injected with an inert gas. Once the seal is broken, regardless of the method, condensate appears...and the window is doomed.

however you don't have to replace the whole window. take the damaged sash out and remove the framing around the "real" window. this leaves you with 2 pieces of glass and an aluminum strip all around them. take this to a glass place and they will order you an exact size replacement. reinstall. this will be a lot less expensive than replacing a whole window. ----ken
p.s. buy glass sealant too.

Also, most glass companies (around here at least) will come out, remove the window and later reinstall it for free or a very small charge. (we have had to use that service a couple of times...) Definitely worth having them do the work. We have had them replace sealed, glazed double-pane glass without a problem.
