New England for fall colors

We're planning a trip through New England this fall and would like to go during fall colors. Can anyone give me recommendations of where to go, and best time. Thanks for your help.

vermont fall foliage

check out this website for info on the Fall Foliage in Vermont. The best time to go depends on where you are going!

Has info on fall foliage and issues that come out closer to autumn of course. My old link to it is no longer valid but they do have best routes to drive etc.

Same thing for www.boston.com go to travel section and search fall foliage

Colors peak earlier further north and peak time depends on amount of rain and temps in each NE State. Varies a few weeks from year to year but most times is around Columbus Day.

Agree with PCgirl. We lived upstate for 5 years and I would say that Columbus Day is a good target. The farther north, though, adjust it earlier but for most of the north east, I think that will workout well for you.

Resorts: Seasons at Sugarbush
week 40

Hi;
We own week 40 at Sugarbush Vt....about mid north in Vermont. This is the first week in Oct. 2 years ago we were about a week early and temps were in the 80's. Last year we were about 3 days too late and temps were in the 40's. It can vary up to 2 weeks or so each year depending on weather. However; I will tell you we loved both vacations.

Just a suggestion...

Been all over New England, lived in Virginia...IMO opinion the finest fall colors to be seen are in Delaware County, in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. Near the towns of Walton and Downsville. Typical peak is around October 15th.

Not a big tourist area and many of the people tend to be honest to gosh Appalachian hillfolk (think of that movie Deliverance) but the colors are phenomenal and the crowds and traffic that you see in New England leaf seasons are non-existent.

I'll second Aldo on NY and the Catskills. The Adirondacks get great color too.

I was in Boston last year the first week of November. I would say we missed the peak colors by 2 weeks or so. That being said, there was still some beautiful colors.

leaf peepers

Agree with Yankee magazine site... have peaks etc.. weeks that are best.. varies from year to year but usually southern NE is good from late Sept- third week of Oct... providing it does not rain alot.. the further north you go the color comes in earlier... check out that site and I believe each NE state has an area for foliage...
