Arrived last Saturday and the place was a mess. The Grand Waikikian has three stories now so the noise with that building still have a way to go (39 stories). The new pool area is being used as a water storage pond (for construction?) and general construction material storage so that's probably why the new pool won't be ready until end of 2008 (the Grand Waikikian won't be ready until 2009). The Lagoon area has construction activities (pumps?) around the lagoon but there's no work on the lagoon itself. I'm wondering how they are going to reduce the dept of the lagoon from 12' to 5' since that will require a LOT of fill. And if that's not bad enough, the Hilton lobby will be getting renovation in a few months. The bright spot is that the lagoon green was all dug up when we arrived. But by this afternoon, half of it had sod and from the look of things, the sod and the landscaping should be finished by tomorrow. I asked someone and he said it'll be ready by 5/1. But I'm guessing that the area might be blocked from pedestrian traffic until May so the plants and grass can take root. That's it for now. I don't think anything else will happen this week.

PS. If this report sounds like I'm complaining, I'm not! It's still Waikiki and I love it here. I've looked at the drawings and it looks like the new check in area will be much nicer so I think it'll be worth it.
