Idol 4/17

OK, Jokes over send him home

Sanjaya seems to be a likable kid. He is amazingly confident on stage. He can't sing to save his life. As Simon said it was worse than many of the rejects from the early rounds.

I hope I can retire my temporary avatar this week. If anyone other than this kid gets the boot it is a true sham. End the terror.

On the flip side Melinda and Jordin, barring a total collapse by one or the other, deserve to be the last finalists as they are both head and shoulders above the rest. Surprisingly good work by Phil, OK from Lakesha, fair from Blake and poor from Chris R. If Sanjaya was gone Chris is easliy next in line.

Overall, this episode was much better than I thought it would be.

Martina McBride has beautiful eyes!

Good: Jordin, Melinda

Good enough: LaKisha, Phil, Blake

Not good: Sanjy, Chris R

And Chris R was worse than Sanjy, and he is going home.

Sanjy was a train wreck.

Chris thinks nasally is a form of singing; so is taking a deep breath, ducking underwater, and singing out in bubbles.

Blake has an ordinary voice but nice control over it. LaKisha is glad country week is over. Phil just discovered that he likes country music because he finally sang something good.

Jordin and Melinda are teflon, bullet-proof.

And props to Simon for finally telling Melinda to drop the "Who, me?"

Tom

Sanjaya - The Westgate of Idol Wannabes. Irritating and no one wants them around. At least Sanjaya doesn't call at 7AM to sell you his latest overpriced CD.

Now there's an idea. If he can get as many people to vote for him, just imagine how many Worstgate timeshares he could sell.

Tonight's show was really good!! I just love, love, love Blake!! Believe it or not, I've never heard his song choice, "Stars Go Blue" by Tim McGraw... Where have I been?!!! That is such a wonderful song.

LaKisha just can't compare to Carrie Underwood's song, "Jesus Take the Wheel". IMO, LaKisha blew it. BIG TIME.

Is it just me or what.. But Melinda is becoming B-O-R-I-N-G to me. Don't get me wrong. She can definitely sing, but she's just blah.

Now Jordin. She's my favorite female contestant by far. I can't believe she's only 17.

I think Phil Stacey has finally found his element. He was really good tonight. I think he should stick with Country. He sure surprised me with his performance tonight.

My Dislikes... Sanjaya and Chris. Chris was horrible. I never really liked Chris R., so I won't be sadden if either he or Sanjaya goes home tomorrow night.

I find her the most believable. She seems confident when she is singing (and I, too, was glad Simon called her on her expression during judging). She has the smoothest voice of them all. I think she is far superior to the rest. Simon compared her to Tina Turner tonight and I think he made a good point. She is the one I look forward to hearing each week.

I don't know why, but I find myself smiling when Sanjaya comes on, even though he doesn't do well. He has a nice voice but no oomph. At least he dresses the part each week and provides some entertainment (which is what this competition is about at least in part--not just singing but entertaining). He just doesn't have enough confidence (or doesn't know how to project it) to make him believable. It must be difficult knowing you are the brunt of so much criticism and so many jokes for millions of people. I give him credit just for showing up.

Our auto dialer has Chris R and Sanjaya in the bottom two with a possibility of seeing Lakisha there with them in the bottom three. I think it may happen that Sanjaya's reign is over and he will be going home!

From another Idol fan

I guess I finally have to comment too - I'm a big Idol fan & glad that I have TIVO !

First, I agree That Tina McBride has beautiful eyes.

For about the last 3 yrs I have been giving grades each week to the top twelve contestants. I looked back at the last 5 week's grades and there are only two that I had as 9+ .. >> Jordin & Melinda, with Lakesha right behind them..although this week I think Phil had his best performance ! I think Melinda has been the most consistent. Lakesha has been real strong up until this week - what a powerful voice :cheer:

My bottom 3 are Blake 7.5, Sanjia 6.5 & Chris at 6.0. I think Chris & Sanjia have been consistently bad - virtually every week.

I think if the voters had to vote someone OFF each week Senjia would already be gone ! I wish they would change the voting to a VOTE OFF - it might cut down on the multiple votes tor the singers.

I really think Simon is the most honest speaking judge, followed by "check it out DAWG" Randy. It seems like Paula looks for something good about each contestant, regardless of their performance . Simon has to keep reminding her that it is a singing contest. Lastly, could we please-e-e-e replace Ryan ! I think he's just there to agitate-I'm still not sure if he is being honest or just a prop.

I will be real interested in watching tomorrow night's show.:cheer:

I enjoyed Lakesha's song...guess they won't be hiring me to judge anytime soon!

I agree with several things said here. I was so happy to hear Simon basically tell Melinda to cut the humility crap. It has really started to get under my skin big time. I'm the world's worst singer and I'm not as humble as her, for God's sake. Enough already.

Sanjaya makes me smile, too. He's so darn cute! I thought they were way too cruel to him last night - he's a kid for God's sake. And SIMON is the one who put him there - Simon loved his audition. Maybe Simon needs to visit You Tube and play the audition video so he can hear himself again! Sanjaya has a great sense of humor and will get the last laugh when he's on the cover of Tiger Beat (does that magazine still exist?) next year and playing to sold out crowds of 12 year olds across the country.

I used to feel the same way about Ryan Seacrest as the other poster - this season I realized how good he is. He really is.

Chris and Phil stink, and I hope one of them goes. LaKisha has really gone downhill the last few weeks. Melinda is great but between the weird physical appearance and the aw shucks crap, she bugs me. I LOVE BLAKE AND JORDIN and I hope to see them in the finals. :D :D :D

Last night was interesting. I didn't care for my fav Blake at all last night. I didn't like the song he chose and I didn't like his performance. I thought that Jordin was amazing followed by Melinda. I think Melinda's stylist finally got it right. They found a way to elongate her neck by putting her in a strapless top and keeping her hair long. She looked beautiful and youthful. For the very first time, I could see her as the Idol although I'm hoping that Blake wins that spot.

Phil was excellent last night, but for me, it's a little too little, a little too late. Sanjaya was a disaster. I'm soooo glad that Simon finally said what I'm sure was on the minds of many. It's been too long since he has provided any real critique of him.

Now I'm even starting to feel bad for LaKeisha. I really do not think that she was a bad as they said last night. Clearly, she is not the diva du jour any more, and when AI has an agenda, watch out. Her problem is that she had nowhere to go but down. I knew it from the start. I've seen people perform "I'm Telling You" for the past 20 plus years over and over again. It's a showstopping song that can make what is merely a good singer look like a "diva." It's just that type of song.

As for Chris...he's been a big disappointment to me. He was terrible last night.

I'm guessing it will be Phil, Chris, And LaKeisha in the bottom three...although Sanjaya really needs to go home at this point.

Jordin, is my pick!! But, I'm not thrilled about anyone this time around. I liked Blake in the beginning, but I don't think I could watch him for a couple of hours at a concert. There has been comments about Melinda's "no-neck". Has anyone noticed that when Blake sings, it looks like he has "No-Teeth" ! I think that is what bothers me about him. Everyone else has beautiful white smiles. I must admit, I did see a glimpse of his teeth last night for a second.

I did too, actually. I was surprised that the judges were as hard on her as they were. I thought maybe with this show, they were trying to position the small group of marketable singers with potential "star power" from the rest. In that event, I feel Melinda is better and probably more marketable than LaKesha.

I'm really hoping for a Jordan win!! She is the full package today!!I too liked Blake early on, but I haven't really seen "it" from him lately. And funny you mention his teeth, because I noticed that last night and wondered if he had similar issues to Elliot Yamin (who was my favorite singer last season!).

I understand what you're saying about Melinda and "her look" but heck . . . look how they have been able to remake some of the past winners and high placing contestants. I could barely recognize Clay Aiken when he was on the show last year. And Kelly Clarkson, while a very cute girl in season one, has become a beautiful woman with her stylist makeover. Carrie Underwood I think, is still a work in progress, but you can see an evolution happening.

Lakesha was so flat then sharp then not even in the right Key at times. If you go back and watch the end of her performance again she even knew that she blew it. it really was not good. She can sing ... just not tonight. And Jordon does rock ... Blake too.

I was out and totally missed it. And I'll miss it tonight because I'll be online chatting. So what did I miss? Sounds like the theme was country western? If so just as well that I missed it...definitely not my favorite genre of music.

What song did Sanjaya sing that folks are saying got butchered? And did Phil wear a cowboy hat on that bald head of his and thus look way better?

:cheer: GO, MELINDA!!! :cheer:

Ahhh, the beauty of TiVo. We just got Direct TV and love those video recorders. I hate to watch commercials, so we skip right through them. We had Dish Network for years and they would not upgrade our equipment without hefty fees, so we left them and are happy with our decision.

The great singers really stood out last night. Even though Simon gets booed quite a bit, he was very right on this time. The audience is getting obnoxious this season. Sanjaya was awful. He should give it up! I hope he is gone tonight.

Sanjaya sang "Let's Give 'Em Something to Talk About" and I don't consider that to even be a country-western song. He must go this week. It would be a travesty if anyone else gets booted off instead of him.

I don't believe Phil wore a hat, but a cowboy hat would have looked good with his song. He did a great job.

I love Melinda and I think she has a great future, but I think Jordan will win.

I've been rating Chris and Phil in the bottom of the pack for a few weeks now. However, last night Phil probably did enough to keep him going for another week. Sanjaya and Chris are now tied for the bottom spot in my book, but Chris is my prediction to go tonight since Sanjaya still has that VFTW following. If there is a bottom three, Lakisha might be the third one.

I agree with you completely JimJ ... though I am hoping the Idol powers that be will envoke one of their disclaimer clauses and throw out enough of Sanjaya's votes to remove him from the show. The jokes over kiddies, it's time for him to go. Last night was too many shades of horrible.

A frightening moment for me, is I agreed with almost all the opinions expressed by Simon ... and boy were his boxers in a bunch last night.

I thought the way Seacrest opened the show tonight was done well. But Simon's VT comments at the end were just out of nowhere and out of place.

I too love TiVo. I honestly don't know how I managed through Idol all these years without it.

William Hung to be Celebrity Guest

He will coach Sanjaya

He will coach Sanjaya

I want a copy of the picture of the two of them together with King David Seagull. He apparently always wants to be photographed with "stars" as if something will rub off on him.

Oh well--partly correct--partly wrong. Blake in the bottom three and Chris in the top four was a surprise. I thought Sanjaya would last another week or two, but not on talent basis. Bottom two prediction for next week--Chris and Phil with maybe Lakisha for a third.

I too am thankful that Sanjaya was (finally) given his walking papers. Not that I would lose sleep over it <smile> . Did you catch his swan song and how he changed up the lyrics on "let's give them something to talk about . . . something but hair . . . hair . . . hair." He did it in both verses. We about died laughing at that here!
