Airtran Coupon Tricks to using?
I received two round-trip vouchers from Airtran last week for volunteering to be "bumped" from an overbooked flight. Yesterday when i called Airtran to use one for a trip to Las Vegas July 13, I was told that no seats were available for vouchers on that flight, but that I could purchase a seat for $388 round-trip. I then asked about seat availability any day between July 6 and July 20 and was told that no voucher seats were available as well. How does this work? The reservation person was not very helpful. How do they determine how many seats are available for voucher use and how close to the intended travel date would seats become available? What are the chances that voucher seats will become available as the date gets closer? Do I have any recourse in this situation? do these vouchers ever really get used, or is it really a scam to get people to give up their seat in return for a voucher that can never be used? If anyone knows the "ins & Outs" of using Airtran vouchers, please let me know. thanks.

Wow that's way different than AA. AA gives you a voucher worth a certain $$ amount and you have a year to purchase tickets so really almost two years to travel. Also if your tickets are less than the voucher they give you a new voucher good for a year for the balance. We went to NYC two years in a wow from a volunteer Hawaii bump. I know this isn't helpful but just wanted to let you know other airlines handle it a nicer way. I'd be pretty disappointent with Airtran too. I'd also be determined to use it even if you use it just to have a fun extended weekend somewhere.

I'm surprised to hear that you are having trouble booking tickets. We had three such voucher each (DH and I). We had no trouble at all booking flights to LV. Perhaps if you ask to speak to customer relations, as we had to do when trying to use a USair voucher on another occasion, they might be able to help you.
Good Luck! dori |

I had 6 vouchers from Airtran and had no difficulty using them. Three different trips were booked for 2 people each and on one occasion I was able to transfer one of mine to a friend who was traveling with my wife. When I took the bump the gate agent told me not to call the normal reservations number and gave me this number to call (1-800-204-5695). It is not the same number listed on the web site.
