Pcs linked to Linksys wireless router. Recently have been getting messages every 15- 20 seconds that "LOCAL AREA Connection, A network cable is unplugged". Then it goes back to normal. Have checked cables and all are attached properly. Could there be a problem with the router? It is very annoying, if trying to get a web site when it happens, it won't. If in a site, it stalls and sometimes does not go any further.

Thanks

If it's a wireless router, what cables are you checking? How far away from your router are your PCs? Do you have a strong signal when connected? Sounds like perhaps the wireless signal is fading in and out due to obstructions and/or distance.

describe your setup (examples how far pc to router, how many pc's hooked up, what make/model of your wireless equipment and pcs, etc.). More dtls the better to diagnose issue

While it is a wireless router, I have 2 Dell Desktops attached via ethernet cable. My Laptop, also a Dell is the only wireless PC. One of the pcs is on the 2nd floor, but the situation happens on all of them at once.

Router is right next to the main PC, I see on the router on the WAN row, that the Link and act lights go red when the situation happens. Then turn green to ok.

Disclosure, router was purchased off ebay about a year ago, and was not new. Perhaps it is just wearing out.

Thanks

Bruce

Certainly sounds like a router problem, since it is happening on all ports and the link lights go red momentarily. See if there is a hardware reset button (sometimes they are tiny and you need a paper clip to get at them).

has the setup changed recently - like new wireless card, new computer, new firmware on your router, new wiring, anything?

That used to happen to me with my Linksys when my internet connection got interrupted. Once the internet connection came back, I would get the cable unplugged notices intermittently even though the router had reconnected to the internet. It was annoying and I usually had to reboot the cable or dsl modem and then the router and sometimes it took a few tries and rebooting them in different sequences before it would finally stop. I think a firmware upgrade finally fixed it - or maybe it was when I went from the 802.11b linksys to the 802.11g version of the router, can't remember.

I can tell what the problem is ~~ I know for a fact ~~ Bein an old puter retired guy for many years ~~ I change from cable to DSL last October ~~ Never had one problem with my cable & been a cable user for many years ~~ Last October I decided to change to DSL to give it a try cause of how everyone was talkin bout DSL bein as good a cable ~~ Well ~~ it aint so ~~ Changed back to cable last month ~~ You were havin the same problem as I did & got tired of it happen all the time ~~

Called Embraq & told them that I had with them & their DSL ~~ It was supposed to cost me an extra $100 to cancel ~~ They didn't bill me yet for that charge as an agreement for one year ~~ My router was up & down like a yoyo ~~ Called them almost every day ~~ When I cancelled the DSL & told them why they said nothin ~~ Any time you a dealin with a phone line or fiber optics you are askin for some problems ~~ I'm with cable again & will never switch again ~~ No problems since I have been back with cable ~~ By the way ~~ this is just "MHOO" ~~ :cheer:

Temporarily disconnect your router from your DSL or Cable modem and see if that cures the problem. By the way, do you have DSL or Cable?
