National's Emerald Club - free

This link allows you to join National Car Rental's Emerald Club free. Supposedly they regularly charge $50, although there are other group affiliations that let you join free also.

The first page says it's free, but when I looked at the application page, it said it would charge my CC the $50 application fee. Also, if you sign up it is a $50 annual fee.

No thanks. There are other rental companies that give you preferred status w/o an annual fee.

I saw the $50 membership fee but never saw the $50 annual fee. If there is an annual fee, I would guess it will come up when when review your account at the end of a year????

I signed on.

Had to give out all the necessary info (License #, Credit Card #, etc.)

It was free---got a reply that "...$0.00 was charged to my credit card."

The new link BassAngler posted doesn't mention $50 charge or the annual fee. The first one has the following on the enrollment page:
Quote:
There is a $ 50.00 (U.S.D.) annual fee to join Emerald Club. This fee will be charged to your credit card that you enter below. After you've successfully completed your enrollment and created your login and password, if you like you can add more credit cards by going to the profile update section.
Thanks!

Kurt

I've been an Emerald Club member since '99 and have been disappointed in recent prices going through that membership.

I have been in Emarald Club for 3 years and there is no annual fee for me.

My latest reservation is for 9 days in Orlando, May 5th-13th for $206 for a mid-size SUV.

Annual Fees

There is normally a $50 fee for enrolling in Emerald Club, however we are currently offering fee-waived enrollment at the link mentioned above. As long as you remain an active renter (at least one rental per calendar year) the annual fee is waived as well.
