After reading prior post by PerryM got me wondering what my Aruba weeks are worth now. Got in at pre-construction cost about 3-4 years ago. Have not seen a recent price list posted. If anyone has one could you please post.

thanks......bob

This does not include Platinum Plus or 3 Bedrooms, but gives you the idea of where prices are at Aruba Surf Club:

2 BEDROOM PLATINUM SEASON (Week Numbers 1-17, excluding Plat Plus)

Oceanfront $54,400 125,000
Oceanside $38,000 110,000
Oceanview $34,800 110,000
Gardenview $30,000 90,000

2 BEDROOM GOLD SEASON (Week Numbers 18-50)

Oceanfront $36,600 100,000
Oceanside $29,000 90,000
Oceanview $27,600 90,000
Gardenview $23,500 75,000

2007 Maintenance Fees: $990.32

I paid $20,900 for a 2BDRM OV Plat in 11/03. I also bought alt use points, cheap for '03 and '04 for about $1500

I would think the resale would be $24K, give or take a $1k. In hindsight I wish I would have bought at least 3 of these.

Regards.
Joe

When I went to the Surf Club in April 03 I was prepared to buy a T/S week. Talked to the sales associate and decided that what worked best for me was a gold 2 BR OS Unit the price then was 18,800. Decided to buy two weeks instead of one. Looks like I made the right decision.:whoopie: Thanks for posting the list.

First week of Sale Sept 2002 - Platinum GV $16,300
First week of Sale Sept 2002 - Gold GV $11,300

So this would be an example of when buying from the developer isn't such a bad idea then

I disagree. I just bought a gold gardenview for $12,500 in 2007. With the time value of money, buying from the developer for almost the same price 5 years ago is not a great deal.

But in the time you've had the property you've had vacations for the price of the maintenance fees, possibly in different parts of the world. On top of that you probably got points which you could use to purchase hotel nights or air travel which you would have otherwise had to pay for and at the end of it all you would still sell the garden view for more than you paid for it. I don't think that the time value of money would make up for that in this case.

You'll find a number of us here who, knowing full well how much can be saved in the resale market, have purchased from Marriott when a new resort first offered weeks for sale. In my view, if you are going to purchase from a developer, that's the best time to do it and Marriott (yes, I'm biased) is the best developer to buy from.

I have purchased Marriott weeks at three different resorts. Two were purchased during pre-construction sales and the third not long after construction started. In each case, I received a boatload of Marriott Rewards points and the resale value has increased to a point approximately equal to or above my purchase price.

Not every opportunity works out the same. Sometimes Marriott doesn't offer incentive points and some Marriott resale prices - years later - are still far below pre-construction selling prices.

In all three of my purchases, I "had to have" that particular timeshare for personal use, in the same way that a car buyer decides he/she has to have a particular brand of car. There were no available options for me. Location (Boston, Las Vegas and on the beach in Hilton Head), combined with the Marriott name, was everything.

On the other hand, someone planning to buy mostly for exchange purposes probably shouldn't consider buying from Marriott. There are so many great Marriott traders available at reasonable resale prices that it would seem like a waste of money to buy from Marriott in that situation.

Similarly, someone considering a purchase in a location where Marriott has more than one resort should consider a resale as a viable option. At least one of those resorts will have timeshares on the resale market.
