anyone ski steamboat springs

We are thinking of going to steamboat springs for skiing next year. Us, and 2 kids ages 8 and 6 who are somewhat beginners - they've skied before. Is this a good place for kids to ski? Is the mountain decent? Is there anything to do besides skiing? How about the altitude affecting you? Any comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Great ski school, nice mountain, well groomed green runs. Lower altitude then Vail, Breck or Beaver Creek. Less likely to cause altitude problems. Would not hesitate to take children there.

Also, one of the most expensive ski mountains in Colorado. Yes, it is a very nice place to ski.

very nice--but longer and winding drive to get there

if you fly into Denver, it's longer to get to and not large freeway like Vail. We also like Winter Park (very close to Denver). Vail and Breckenridge are our favorite for atmosphere, but Steamboat was just fine, we had kids with us. WE really enjoy the sleigh-ride/steak dinner.

Look for kids ski free packages on many major airlines. Just google something like Steamboat kids ski free and it should come up. Great ski school and I agree with the altitude being lower and thus better for out of towners or out of staters as it may be. The town is a wonderful place to bring a family. Sleigh rides and anything else you could want. However, if you want to go to any other mountains the drive is much more extensive. (a few hours) Of the summit county area mountains actually Vail has the least altitude. (steamboat is in another county and altitude is less than vail) You will thouroughly enjoy steamboat.

Flights to Steamboat Springs

I frequently travel through the Denver Airport and I see flights to Steamboat Springs. I have no idea how much they cost, but just to let you know, they are available.

We like Steamboat Springs so much that we spend the entire winter there It's a great ski mountain for all ages and all abilities (well, I don't have any experience on the expert slopes myself) and a nice town as well. For family winter entertainment, the best time to go is during Winter Carnival.
Probably you'll want to use your timeshare, but if you don't, you can save money by getting a lodging and lift ticket package through Steamboat Central Reservations. http://www.steamboat.com/home.aspx
That sight will give lots of other information too.
If you fly into Hayden HDN, you can avoid the drive from Denver.
