Are weeks thru RCI/II membership cheaper than Getravelop, etc?

Hi.

We've been renting for a while now and always monitor the excess inventory sites for government, etc. to determine pricing.

We're thinking about purchasing a week that we can use every year, not for trade, and joining RCi and/or II to have access to the weekly rentals.

Since we don't yet own, I can't access the actual RCI or II availability until it hits one of the excess sites. My question is this:

Are the PRICES for weeks that RCI/II members can rent CHEAPER than what I can get as a non-member thru e-bay or HolidayNetwork OR is it that Members can get better resorts and there is more availability than non-members? Or both cheaper and better!!?

I've never seen some of the resorts we'd like to try, such as Nags Head, available in the Summer months on any of the non-member sites. Do you members have access to ones like that or are there NEVER any great summer weeks available for rent? Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

Thanks!

Last minute (45 days or less) some RCI prices will be less than skyauction etc. Farther out, ebay from an owner should be be more attractive.

OBX summer weeks won't be cheap through RCI as a rental, period. They might be available, but you'd almost certainly do better renting from an owner directly. Even that won't be cheap; the owners of such weeks are much more likely to use them themselves. If you want a prime week in a prime location, then you probably need to own a prime week in a prime location---preferably that week in that location.

We prefer Marriott Vacation Club when not staying on our DVC points. I have seen owners rent out their weeks on Ebay. But if I want an extra week, I prefer to purchase a II Getaway rather than rent from a stranger off of Ebay. But we have the ability to travel off season. So Getaways work nicely for us.

I've never seen Marriott Vacation Club on condodirect. There are some nice resorts on that site, though. I see Vistana Villages and Mystic Dunes, but the prices for those two are anywhere from $155 to $189 less a week through an Interval Getaway, though.

I think summer weeks and holidays are scarce because that's when kids are out of school. I have seen some early summer (first 2 weeks of June) Getaways, though.

Many months ago, a tugger followed the rates on the government and affinity sites from RCI and II.

She determined the prices were USUALLY somewhat cheaper for getaways and extra vacations...and last minute rentals to members of the exchange company they belonged to.

BUT, many times the difference was not by much. The selection to exchange co members, however, was bigger.

The difference in availability to quality resorts might make a difference...but pricing was close to those avail when listed on the affinity site or on the direct exchange company site.

The quality difference might have also been based on the units the exchange company had listed in your account.

Is there a hierarchy?

There seems to be slightly different availablity and even pricing between the excess sites. getravelop.com seems to have MORE listings than HolidayNetwork.com, but they aren't exactly the same.

Where is the FIRST excess site RCI/II send inventory to? Maybe I'm overlooking the biggest selection for non-members.

It does sound as though being a member has the advantages of different resorts and a little on cost.

Thank you.

Sam

The RCI and II website which rent units to the general public tend to be slightly more expensive than the II get-a-ways and RCI extra vactions but only by < 10%. But the rental sites are required to have some consumer protections, like if the unit is unavailable RCI must refund your money. They are not required to do that with their extra vacations.

Thanks!

They are available for rent through RCI, but not at bargain basement prices... For example there is an August week at Outer Banks Beach Club II for $1069...
