Easter week in England 2008
We have an exchange for Cornwall for next March, coinciding with a birthday with a '0' in it. It also happens to be Holy Week and St. Patrick's Day is thrown in as well. Our first choice for flights would be Aer Lingus from Boston into Dublin, then AirSouthwest from there to Newquay which we have done before. We are also considering flying to London and taking in Palm Sunday at Westminster or St. Paul's.
I have been checking flights for the past couple of weeks as the return flights just became available. Until last Friday, Aer Lingus was $438 RT but I had to wait as I had won a bid on SkyAuction to London but didn't have the schedule yet. Friday night I was notified by SA and the flight times were not acceptable so we cancelled, and by then the Aer Lingus flights had gone up $140 each! This morning they went up again and are now at $608. I know that Easter week is going to be tough to get decent flights, but I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of when or if the prices might get better. I was hoping to book soon as I know this week is in high demand, but the prices are so high that I'm not sure we will go at all. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks. |

If the weekend prior to St Patrick's day you intend to travel, flying into Dublin then I'd say get the flights now - I don't think they'll get cheaper. You might find better prices into other UK airports.

Thanks for the replies. Much to my surprise, even though I replied to Sky Auction to cancel, they came back a few days later with a direct flight to LHR on the days and times we wanted. It was more expensive than the AerLinus original flights, but still a good price so we took it. I am so used to planning a year ahead that I was getting nervous at not having flights. This worked out ok.
Thanks again. |
