Some years ago my mom gave me a 1919 2.5 peso gold Mexican coin. I was going through things the other day and came across it. Anybody know an easy way to find its value? I searched for it on ebay and found nothing which struck me as pretty unusual. I'm not a trader or collector so I was hoping to find the ballpark value without investing in books or memberships or a trip to a big city dealer. Can anyone help? Thanks!

there are a number of factors that determine the value of a coin. the date, which determines the rarity, is important but so is the condition of the coin. also the demand drives the market and most non us coins don't sell well in the us. dealers traditonally only pay 60% of the retail price of a coin so they can make a profit so a private sale such as ebay might make sense but 1st you have to get an idea of it's condition from a dealer or collector. Search on e bay for a similar coin and you might get an idea of the price ranges. good luck

It will be worth the most if it was not thrown in a drawer rattling around. Hopefully, it has been in a protective case of some sort. Whatever you do - do not try to clean it or polish it - that will make it less valuable.

My Ex is a coin collector (used to own a coin shop).
