We own Grand Mayan in Playa del Carmen Mexico, with only Christmas and Easter restricted weeks. We have paid our maintenance fee and would like to trade for somewhere in either Arizona or California in November this year. RCI intimidates me because I don't know the right questions to ask or what to expect. Can anyone help me? When we bought, they explained the exchange process, but if someone, other than a fast talking sales person could explain it to me, I may have a better understanding of it. Thanks for your help!

To do a trade with an exchange company;

-Reserve the best week you can at your resort. (Best if at least 6 -12 months in the future)
- Deposit that week into the exchange company.
- search for an exchange in the area and time you want to travel. ( for the peak season of travel you need to search at least 6-12 months early)

Vic, so I'd recommend reserving thanksgiving week, if you can. Depositing that week in RCI and then begin you search. Since Nov in Cal & AZ is off peak season, you'll likely be able to find something nice.

Good Luck

If you deposit into RCI, you do not get to pick your week. Mayan will just assign a week to your RCI account. Just call Mayan reservations and tell them that you want to deposit your week into RCI, or else you can do it online at the reservations website.

Once deposited, you don't have to talk to RCI at all, you can conduct all of your business online. Make sure you register for your RCI web account.

I realize you asked about RCI, but

Trading Places or SFX may be good for you also. Neither charge a membership fee, their trade fees are lower than RCI, and since they are both in California, they have pretty good westcoast availablity.
To deposit with SFX, you need to establish your account, then call Grupo Mayan reservations and ask that they deposit your week(s) with SFX.

With TPI, you need to get a week assigned and then deposit it with them.

Just a thought. Greg
