Victor, NY

Will be in Victor, NY sometime this month. DH has a business trip. We are planning to visit Niagra Falls one weekend day. Other than that, is there anything else in the area around Victor that you would recommend? An internet search showed a Native American site in Victor that looks interesting. Anything else? Thanks.

There's a Six Flags Park about an hour away in Darien, a Living History museum called Genesee Country Village in Mumford, about 40 minutes away (it's one of the largest in the country, although not on the scope of Colonial Williamsburg), and one of the finger lakes, Canandaigua, about 15 - 20 minutes away with winery tours. Other than that there is at least one large antique mall near there if you like antiquing.

Search Rochester, NY on the internet. There are several interesting museums there. Also, the Baltimore Orioles farm team, the Red Wings play there. Seneca Falls, the birthplace of the women's movement is home to a national park. Finger Lakes region is known for it's wineries and lovely lakes. There is a very nice estate with gardens in Canandaigua.

Lot of things to do in that area.

Resorts: Cypress Pointe, Wastegate, Orlando, FF, RCI Points, Diamond Club, Cove@Yarmouth, Rayburn County,Tx, Kingsgate Williamsbu
George Eastman House & Museum in Rochester - 20 minutes away. If you are into Photography this is the Holy Grail. For kids there is the Strong Museum of Play. Old toys, interactive displays - minutes from the Eastman House.
Sea Breeze Park on Lake Ontario. A 100 year old Amusement park with a real wooden roller coaster, carousel and old fashion bumper cars. I lived there as a kid. It's still fun.

Happened upon Sonnenberg while looking for something else in that area. How would it be to live like that? Huge house, lots of gardens, no kids. When I asked why (tongue in cheek) two people needed such a large house, the docent replied they needed a place to put the servants. I thought Canandaigua was a charming town. I drove along the lake for a little ways.

Also visited Ganondagan near Victor. It was interesting to see how the more simple, indigenious peopled lived. Quite the contrast.

Saw Niagara Falls on a beautiful Saturday. Walked across the Rainbow Bridge to Canada to view them. Overheard one tweenish aged boy tell his mom, "you can only look at water for so long." Had lunch outdoors at the Secret Garden Restaurant. Was fun watching the birds beg for crumbs. Also went to the bird aviary there and enjoyed that. Had a Coke float made with chocolate ice cream (sounds weird but it was very good) at the Coke shop.

Walking back over the bridge to re-enter the USA we had to wait with a line of worn-out looking people. DH and I both had sore knees, feet, from walking all day. Waiting in line, the refrain "give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses ..." came to mind.

We also made the round trip drive in one day of going to the southern part of the state to visit family. It was a long drive. Both DH and I were surprised at how rural New York state is.

All in all, the weather was mostly good and I enjoyed the cool "green-ness" of the area. It seemed a little bit of paradise--bit I'm not so sure it would seem so pleasant covered in 10 feet of blizzarding snow. Seems I remember hearing the general area was socked with a lot of the white stuff last winter.

Wanted to see Genesee Country Village but couldn't talk DH into it. Maybe I'll get a chance to go on my own some day. It sounds very interesting.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Resorts: SEDONA SPRINGS, SEDONA, AZ. VACATION VILLAS @ FANTASY WORLD, KISSIMMEE FLORIDA
Watkins Glen is a beautiful place, it's just outside of Geneseo. I don't know if they still have the light show at night but that also was worthwhile.
