Question Anyone ever heard of Windy Shores II at North Myrtle?

I'm still holding a Waterside by Spinnaker but have to decide. There is a 3 bedroom at Windy Shores II that is a possibility. It is not listed under the resort reviews on TUG. I thought we pretty much had all of them covered. This is the first one that I haven't been able to find. They are managed by Defender Resorts which also manages several other timeshares in the Myrtle Beach area Maritime Beach Club, Atalaya Towers, and others). There were lots of pictures on their website but I need to make a decision. This one is oceanfront. Waterside is not but Waterside is gold crown and this one isn't. If anyone knows anything about this place, let me know. HELP!!

Resorts: Highlands of Sugar MROP
It is an older resort. I don't know if it has been updated but it certainly isn't close to being a gold crown. shaggy

Resorts: Mountainside Villas, Summit at Massanutten
I have sent people there in the past and had some complaints about the furnishings. It is certainly not gold crown, but everyone has loved the fact that it is on the ocean.

I've stayed at Windy Shores II a few times on bonus stays since I own a Defender resort, and I like it. Personally, I'd take that 3-BR oceanfront in MB over non-oceanfront HH in a heartbeat. But that's me, to whom ocean view and ocean access is paramount on a beach vacation. The master bedroom is oceanfront as well as the living room - open the sliding glass doors and sleep to the sound of the ocean waves. The balcony is large, the unit is huge for oceanfront. The furnishings are older, the building is wooden, and it feels more like an old-time beach cottage than a modern condominium. There's nothing Gold Crown about it, there's a pool and that's about it. No hot tub, no activities that I recall, and depending on the dates, not necessarily a reception at all. I think a lot of the units there are wholly owned, not timeshares.

Smile Thanks for the info!!

Just wanted to let you all know that we decided on Windy Shores. With a 3 yr old in tow, it's tough walking just a couple of blocks to the ocean. We decided that oceanfront was better for us at this time. The furnishings is not a big deal as long as it is clean. That balcony overlooking the ocean seems like a big plus, too. Thanks for your input. Maybe, when the kids are all a little older, we'll try Hilton Head.

I think you made a good decision. Now that I think about it, we did exchange there for a week one August, I guess I should write a review but maybe you'll beat me to it. I like being able to go down to the beach on a whim and be there immediately, several times a day, and also be back at our unit immediately for eats, drinks, shade, extra clothes, whatever, whenever we feel like going in. In late summer the ocean is like bath water there, and usually there are lots of sharks' teeth, if your kids are old enough to collect them.

I think the Windy Shores units have washer-dryers too. And if you need highspeed internet, you can probably go up to Maritime and use theirs for free, probably there's an arrangement w/other Defender resorts, you can ask. Maritime also has wireless in their lobby, if you have a notebook you wouldn't have to schedule around other people.

Hilton Head is a prettier area overall, and definitely worth a trip, but we rarely go because there are so few oceanfront RCI timeshares there. Enjoy your vacation!
