going to Smuggs in June--we are driving from DC. We are thinking of staying near/in NYC on the way back for the night, but we would also like to do a 2nd week at a resort while up that way.
What is a good "add-on" 2nd week to Smuggs. It could be 2 hours from Smuggs (so Canada), or on the way (sort of ) back to DC. We have 3 kids (8, 8, 12). Looking for a change of pace from the Vt Mtns, since we would have been there for 1 week. Also, anyone have a favorite resort for kids that fits the bill--and why is it your favorite resort? |

I would choose a change in mountain color from green to white and go a little higher to New Hampshire' White Mountains. Lots of fun things there for kids, and for everyone- Clark's Trading Post and their bear show would be unforgettable. Good resorts are Grand Summit at Bear Peak, Crown Ridge, Deer Park,(the remote-across the ME border) Jordan Grand from RCI, while II has (Innseasons)Pollard Brook and Inseasons South Mountain. Lots of other resorts there too or you could go south to the Lakes Region.
If you want to get a jump on the way home you might consider the Berkshires- Vacation Village (RCI) or Ponds at Foxhollow (II) but the area is more cultural and might not excite the kids. Then there are the Catskills in NY. Just got back yesterday from a day trip to Nottingham Village at Friar Tuck to see BigFrank- nice units, lots of amenities and a good base for day trips to Howe caverns, Secret Caverns, and Cooperstown among others. |
