We are flying into Orlando on Nov 15 and the reason is it is the only destination in Florida we can fly non stop from Calgary. Looking for a hotel for 2 nights before heading to Weston for a week and then on to Sanibel Island and Marco Island for the next 2 weeks. It will be just the 2 of us and we have done the Disney thing several times with grandkids so that doesn't interest us. Thought we might drive to the coast for the day or has anyone got any other ideas of things to do for a day in Orlando? We are probably going to try priceline for the hotel and I'm wondering which would be the most convienent area to look if we're not doing Disney or Univeral Studios. Any ideas?

Why stay in Orlando? Why not priceline near either coast for 2 nights before Weston?

I had considered that but our flight doesn't get in until after 7:00pm and then we have to pick up the rental car. How long would it take to drive to the nearest coastal area?

You said you've done the Disney thing, but have you gone to SeaWorld or Universal with your grandkids? You could go to SeaWorld and probably grab a cheap two-night promo stay at Marriott's Grande Vista (you'd have to take the sales tour of course). You could go to Universal and stay near there at one of the clean, modest but nice motels around there. How old are the younguns?

No grandkids with us this time. Just the 2 of us and yes we have done it all when they were with us. I guess what I'm looking for is someplace to stay that is not too far from the coast and easy to get out the day we drive to Weston. It looks like the airport area might be good or somewhere south. I'm asking because I don't know anything about this area of Orlando. I don't think we would want to drive to the coast the night we arrive but the next day would be nice.

Cocoa Beach is less than an hour from the airport, and there are lots of places to stay and great places to eat. You can tour the space center and enjoy the ocean views! Some of the places in the Orlando area can be hard to find and you could spend almost as much time hunting one of them down as in taking the e-a-s-y drive to Cocoa Beach.
P.S. And then it's easy to head south to Weston afterwards! |

Thanks donnaval! I guess since we have decided to spend the day at the ocean we will either stay at an airport hotel or drive to Cocoa Beach that night. It's been a long time since we visited the space center so that might be fun.
