Questions about New Zealand
We plan to be in New Zealand (North Island) thru some exchanges soon. Does anyone know what sort of refrigerators are usually found in NZ timeshares?? We have had exchanges in Europe and British Isles with very tiny refrigerators, about the dimension of dormitory size.
And in a similar vein, is bagged ice available in New Zealand?? Our European experiences were that ice was practically not used, and that it was impossible to buy bagged ice the way we can in US TheDuke |

Resorts: 2 Aquamarine Villas, 1 Fxrun, an MP and now 2 EOY Waterside - and that's all (until the next time.... I promised) |
Refrigerators(and all other appliances) are smaller than US/CAD standards - more the european size (but not the bar fridge size) but it depends very much on where you are staying - we were there for 5 months and never had a problem with the fridge size. As far as ice goes - we used a lot of it - every "dairy" aka corner store had it as well as petrol stations and groceries - so no worries there. It's a great country - very Canadian (from about 40 years ago in some respects) to my Canadian mind, but very British in a lot of respects as well. Take time for the truly fantastic wines, the lovely people and stay safe when driving on the left.
![]() Oh yes and send me a PM if you have other specific questions - while we didn't get around a lot -we did live in Waitakere City, visited some places around Auckland, got as as far north as the Matakana Penninsula (think wine and the Morris and James Pottery) and as far south as Rotorura (think thermal activity) during our stay...

Re. New Zealand
Many thanks for your comments. We do indeed look forward to our three weeks in NZ. We will be at Mt Maunganui one week and at Paihia two weeks. I am pleased to hear that ice will be readily available. We do like ice for drinks, and would expect to picnic at the parks as we tour about. The refrigerator situation will not be a problem anyway-there will be only two of us, and we won't need to stockpile much perishable food.
And yes, I do remain a bit nervous about left side driving. I have driven a lot on previous exchanges in the British Isles, but I never really felt at ease with it. But, we will cheerfully survive it for the sake of visiting that beautiful country. TheDuke |

Duke: On the driving side, my experience is that some (certainly not all) NZ drivers tend to be somewhat aggressive - added to that is that you have a bunch of tourists driving all manner of vehicle (from cars to camper vans) for the first time on the left and gawking at the same time - just be very careful. The New Zealand Land Transport has a really good website http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/overseasdriv...ing-in-nz.html that will explain it - it wasn't difficult, but you need to stay focussed. Oh yes and make sure your rental car is an automatic..
