I am considering purchasing a resale timeshare at the Kahana Villa Vacation Club on Maui. I have been to the Kaanapalli area one time. Looking at the map, Kahana Villa is north of Kaanapalli...about 10-15 miles north of Lahaina. Has anyone stayed at Kahana Villa or any other place in that area? I am wondering how the beaches are and anything else I should know about. Thanks so much! Criss

If you are buying a two bedroom unit, they are fantastic. I wouldn't own a one bedroom. The two bedrooms all have partial ocean views, the one bedrooms are on lower floors and only a few have any kind of view.
We were on the top floor with our two bedroom last July and really enjoyed the unit. They're furnished well, except for a very tiny hot water heater, which would be a problem with a large family. The kitchen is very nice, well equipped, including a washer/dryer unit and a large bucket of laundry soap. The place was CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. The living room furniture was brand new last year, and so was the carpet. The two bedrooms are upstairs, and the master had a wonderful view of the ocean because the windows extend from the first floor to the top of the second story. The bedrooms had new spreads and furniture. The bathrooms were very nice, too. It was really a great exchange. We were SO pleased. I have considered purchasing a two-bedroom at KVV myself. I wrote a review of this resort that is in the resort database here on TUG. If you join, you will get access to the reviews. I was so surprised at how nice our unit was, because the reviews were not stellar, so I asked here on TUG about the resort's condition. Most people had not been there recently. So my review is probably the most recent, I think, and our experience was superb. Beaches are not good across from the resort, but down the street, only a few minutes by car, is Napili Beach, one of the most beautiful anywhere. The water is beautiful. It looks just like I thought Hawaii should be.

We own two weeks next door at Kahana Falls. The beach is across the street with access between The Sands of Kahana and Kahana Beach Vacation Club. The beach is ok although there is not much in the way of snorkeling. Public beach area from high tide line to the resort areas is only about 15 to 20 feet. We prefer a drive back toward Lahaina and a beach next door to the Westin. Several upscale restaruants are within walking distance as is a small full service market. Area is usually pretty quiet with easy access to Lahaina, Kaanapali and Kapula. It is a 30 to 45 minute drive to Kahuli on a two lane road that backs up quickly when there is an accident. We always make sure we leave our resort for the airport with plenty of time to spare just in case there are any delays. Long drive to Paia, Hana or Haleakala. Wailuku is an interesting city and on our next visit in Sept we plan to explore and get to know Makawao. Enjoy

There are two different kinds of timeshare vacationers. One type likes very high-end luxury places that really deserve the term "resort." They enjoy the on-site pools, restaurants, bars and grounds.
The other type likes to be in a nice condo in a nice neighborhood (i.e. close to attractions, perhaps, but fairly modest and peaceful themselves). The KVV is more like the latter. It's in the same area of Maui as Kahana Falls, Sands of Kahana and the Valley Isle. All of these have full-time residents as well as vacationers. The Kahana area uses the Lahaina post office identification and zip code, and is not a long drive from Lahaina, say 10 miles. It's between the more upscale areas of Kaanapali, which is on the way to Lahaina, and Kapalua. Many beaches are within a short drive, and at least one is walking distance. All of the Kahana places have shops, bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. A short drive gets you to even more. |

Lee, you described us perfectly. We like being in a comfortable place, a homebase for our activities. Comfortable sofas, beds and lanai with a view are all we require. The kitchen helps, too.
