I am considering purchasing at the Imperial, but want some information on how the exchanging/banking system works.

TIA

They work pretty much like most resorts. You can make a reservation a year in advance by email, phone, fax, their website or U S Mail. We have exchanged thru both RCI weeks and RCI Points. If you know you will not be using a week for a particular year you can bank that week internally for $50. But, as I remember, you must notify them prior to when your use year starts. You can not request a particular room or at least expect to get a requested room because with their check in days being any day of the week it makes it much more difficult for reservations to perdict in advance when a particular room will be available.

Thanks CalBigHorn
That is what I was wondering about an internal exchange system. So if I owned a week every year, say starting in 2008, but I didn't use the unit in 2008, could I go for 2 weeks in 2009, or get two units in 2009?

That's what I was told at the last owners meeting I attended. As I mentioned previously there is a $50 fee for internal banking and you must notify the Imperial prior to when your use year begins. Example; our use year begins June 1st of each year, so we must notify them by May 31st if we want to do an internal deposit.

Edit: I'm quite sure this is a relatively new program as we have been owners for over 10 years and last year was the 1st time I've heard of this internal exchange. General Manager Marliyn Verner said this was implemented because many owners have to travel far to get to the Islands and with the rising cost of airfare it just makes more sense to go every-other-year and stay 2 weeks instead of 1. I think it makes a lot of sense and I applaud the Imperial for this policy. Otherwise owners would have to deposit into RCI then have to pay 3 times as much in exchange fees and hope to get a week that will work for them.
