Questions on Air India

My cousin and his wife are going to England in November, and the cheapest flights they are seeing from Toronto are on Air India ($600 Canadian each). Is this a good price? Does anyone have any experience, knowlege, etc. about this airline? Any input would be appreciated. Thaks.

You might be better off posting an OT thread on FlyerTalk in the Air Canada forum to get an answer to this question. Lots of participants and lurkers there fly YYZ-LHR and fly Air India, so you may get more responses.

Dori, what are their travel dates? Would they be willing to fly into either Gatwick or Manchester?

Dori

I think the it was actually a cruisecritic.com post, but there was a comment to the effect that someone had a friend from India who was adamant about not flying on Air India because they thought it was such an inferior airline.

Hi Harmina. Sorry we missed you at the TOTUGgers meeting. My cousin and his wife are hoping to fly to Manchester (they really prefered Birmingham, but Manchester will work) around the 19th of November. They are heading to an 80th birthday.

Hi Dori...your cousin should be able to get a flight with Air Transat. I can see flights to Birmingham for $399. + taxes of $311. At this time they only have until the end of Oct. in their system. There are flights to Manchester ( with dates in Nov.) for $299. + taxes of $311.
Scandanavian airlines have flights for approx. $ 700 taxes included. The only problem is they would have to fly through Chicago & Copenhagen. They could do a stopover in Copenhagen and spend some time there if they wanted.

Thanks, everyone. Right now, they are looking at Zoom for around $600 each, taxes in. I think it flies out of Hamilton. They will have to drive down from Beaverton.

I still welcome any comments re. Air India.

Hi Dori, I went over to Flyertalk (I'm a big fan of their forums but they can get nasty if you don't use the search thing, etc.) and they have a thread called "What Airline Makes you Cringe, etc." Anyway, Air India came up 5 times at least. Comments were "yuck" and customer service fiascos even before you board, among others. Linda
