Upgrading flight????

After thinking that we might have to cancel trip to Canada (and getting info from this group about canceling II and flights), my husband is out of the hospital and feeling better. So.. we get to go to Alberta next week. :-)

We have reservations on United operated by Air Canada (booking class T). That means nothing to me. Is it ever possible to upgrade using points? In this case, using United points. Please don't laugh at my question (at least don't laugh in front of me).

If you want laughs, post it on Flyertalk

By points, I assume you mean miles. OK. My simplest answer is, if the flight was a United flight number *and* on United metal:

http://www.united.com/page/article/0...e=RelatedLinks

15K miles per person each way flying a T fare.

However, this only works on UA metal, which you're apparently not flying (operated by AC means you're flying AC metal), so an upgrade is unavailable using UA miles. However, and I'm not a FF with AC, you may, if you have AC upgrades/miles, be able to upgrade that flight that way. I don't know.

Glad to hear hubby is doing better!

That is why I posted the question on Tug, not Flyertalk.
Thanks for info. Will call Air Canada, but sounds like we cannot upgrade using United miles. It is just a 3 hour flight, so we will survive in economy.

Yeah, they are so informative, but can be intimidating, daunting, and in some cases downright nasty...

hey, I survived and now even command a modicum of respect mixed in with a good sprinkling of derision

I've met a lot of Flyertalker's in person and I can understand where the culture developed. Their minds move at warp speed. It's a lot like a computer geek forum. It's a language and a culture all its own.

One sure way to learn on FT is to use the search function, or target Google to search the site. Nearly every travel question known to man has been asked and answered there. I read it for two years, learning, before even venturing to make a post
