Car Rental from Kahului Airportr

What experience have you had renting from this airport? I need a SUV, because there is going to be 4 possibly 5 adults. I checked Hertz, and I thought they were reasonable, until I seen Alamo prices. Alamo was a savings of approx $300.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We've used the OGG Alamo several times without problems. This year we happened to get a better rate with Budget so are going with them for our next OGG trip in Sept.

Be sure to check if the SUV will also hold the luggage for 5 adults. Are we talking 10 checked bags with the usual carry-on's?

No, Prob 3-4 mid size bags and the same number of small carry-ons.

You really don't need that much clothes in Hawaii

(Sorry I hit the submit button too soon)

I have a long history of good rentals from Alamo, but last Sunday's paper had an article about the high number of complaints about them with the BBB.

For this reason, I'll work a little to avoid them in the future, unless their rate is too good to pass up.

Used Alamo at OGG in April. No problem. Good car. Easy in and out service with prompt shuttles. 107% satisfied.

I have used Alamo in OGG for several years in January with out a problem but this year I got a better deal from National even though they are the same company.

We swore off Alamo in Maui years ago due to "I don't remember what". This past May, I saw the price difference and tried them again. NO MORE. Poorly maintained, dirty, shabby vehicle the first time, then they replaced for us a few days later when the tire blew out on the way to Hana. Poorly maintained, dirty and shabby again. We are back to Budget.

I had good luck with Thrifty in July at OGG. Shuttle was very quick, got upgraded to a new Sebring convertible, check in and return were fast, and shuttle was quick back to the airport. Thrifty was cheaper than the rest.

In December I used Alamo and had to take the mini van back because the sliding door would not close correctly.
