Need suggestions for Washington DC Hotel

I would like to stop off in Washington DC and stay two nights to tour the sites. The number of hotels listed in Wash is over whelming! I would appreciate any suggestions for a nice hotel. Yikes I am used to my timeshare, but will have to lower my standards to a regular room. We are going third week this month.

I'd look into the JW Marriott. It is a decent hotel right on Pennsylvania Ave; an easy cab ride or walk to most of the downtown stuff; and right next to a Metro Station.

We stayed at the JW for a week. We loved the location and were able to walk almost everywhere.

We stayed at a Hilton located in Arlington, VA that was nice.

We were able to get this hotel through priceline after obtaining info from biddingfortravel.com.

What was especially nice, the metro was located below the hotel so it was oh so easy to catch the train.

Thanks

The Hilton is located a few blocks from my office. There are several hotels in this area, which runs along the Metro Orange line. I can't help you on prices, but there are a number of restaurants in the area and a small enclosed mall.

Dupont Circle neighborhood.

We stayed a week at Jury's Washington on Dupont Circle and it was in a more residential neighborhood with lots of restaurants. The metro was right across the street and we could get to everything easily from there. It is reasonably priced. You can take the metro from the airport to your hotel with only one change. Check it out!

The Embassy Suites across the Potomac in VA is where we stayed, with a view of the White House out our window. It's the one near Reagan Airport.

I second the advice on using priceline.com and biddingfortravel.com for advice on what to bid. August is a real slow time in DC for three and four star properties that cater toward business travelers, a prime recipe for great priceline.com deals. You probably could get a 3 or 4 star hotel for less than $70 per night.

My preference in hotel zones would be : Downtown, Dupont Circle, Georgetown, Capitol Hill, and Crystal City (in Arlington, but close to the metro).

Jw Marriott

We bit the bullet and stayed at the JW MARRIOTT, and we were VERY glad we did...White House is only 2-3 blocks away. Smithsonian museums are across the street. ....And it's great walking to them. (don't miss Dorothy's ruby red slippers at the Smithsonian! and the slippers are what comes up most often in our reminiscing!) You can almost see the lawn of the White House looking out your Penn. Ave. window.

The Hard Rock Cafe is only a couple of blocks out the front door, too. The JW MARRIOTT hotel is awesome, and we always will have a fantastic memory.

Make sure you call your state representative to get advance tickets to the White House tour and to the Capitol Bldg. ....A short drive to Mt. Vernon is a must, and try to get to the Lincoln & Jefferson Memorials. Stopping in Old Town Alexandria on the way to Mt. Vernon is great. There, that should take up ALL your time now. jme
