Resorts: Way too many! Selling some, giving some away, keeping the best....
Alamo car rentals for September are low right now

With Costco's $25 off additional discount, we are paying only $237.60 for a two week rental, including all taxes and fees, for a mid-size SUV. This rental is out of Tampa for mid September start. Amazing deal. Now I can call a few weeks ahead of time and get an additional 10% discount f I prepay, which will also allow Rick to pick the car of his choice without going through the long lines.

Cindy,

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately my previous reservation is still lower (using Sam's Club ID with EB free upgrade coupon) for Kona.

When are you going to Kona?

I check rental car prices every day; they change every day, too.

The day before yesterday, the same rental was $400+, so I kept my compact car, which I had reserved two weeks ago for $291 for the two weeks.

I wanted something larger, even though it is just going to be two of us from the airport. We have a few people who say they are going to join us, like two of our kids, a few of their friends, and a niece and nephew, but you never know.

Cindy,

Sorry, but I think the 10% Prepay discount is ONE of the online discounts that Alamo offers, BUT, it cannot be combined/tiered with OTHER discounts.

What I'm trying to say is, if there is a special offer, then the 10% Prepay cannot be an additional offer.

I booked Vegas, Full Size car 9 days $149 + $70 taxes for a TOTAL of $219----I am really happy with that rate.

BUT, after trying to call Alamo, and with instructions on how to apply an online Prepay discount (it CANNOT be applied by a 'rep' over the phone)---the price goes UP.

It was worth a try---but the 10% Prepay discount is something that seems CANNOT be added once you've gotten a really good rate.

Let me know if you discover otherwise---that would bring me to less than $200 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you suggest that I do regarding my rental in Kona this Sunday? We are arriving on two different days. I will be in Kona on Sunday and my friend is joining me Tuesday. Has anyone had experience with the additional driver rules? Here is what I found on the website:

Additional Driver

Additional Drivers:
All additional drivers must meet ALL rental qualifications in regard to age and driving record as well as all other standard rental qualifications.
Must appear at the rental counter with the primary renter.
Must present a valid driver's license.
Must sign the rental agreement.

An additional daily fee may apply for any Additional Drivers.

Do you think that Alamo will allow my freind to be added to the agreement when I return to pick her up at the airport? It looks like I need to call them.

Hajjah, are you a member of Costco? An additional second driver is FREE with the Costco codes.

Pat, I saw on disboards that others were able to get the 10% prepay discount by calling a rep and giving the reservation number. I haven't tried it myself and am now worried I won't get it, but with the great price we got, I guess it isn't a big deal to me. I originally reserved a compact for $291 two weeks ago, so this rate on a mid-sized SUV, which we prefer to a compact, is really outstanding.

Cindy: No, I'm not a Costco member anymore, but my friend is. I'm using the Sam's Club discount for my rental, but I'd like to know if Alamo will allow my friend to be added to the agreement upon her arrival in Kona two days after me. When I went on Alamo's website using the 7012153 code, the second driver is free, but I'm wondering if they will allow the second driver to be added after I pickup the car on Sunday. It looks like I need to call. Thanks.

This is an update:
I'm now on the Big Island after arriving yesterday. I was able to get the Costco discount with the free upgrade. They will also allow me to add my friend when she arrives tomorrow. We only need to stop by Alamo on the way from the airport. This has worked out very well. One of the two families joining us on Saturday will also able to make get a deal on the free upgrade using their Costco card. My thanks to all.

Okay, so I thought my last deal was good, but being the bargain hunter that I am............

With the Costco code and the 10% Prepay discount, we are paying $178.25 for TWO FULL WEEKS in a Mid-sized SUV from Tampa, 9/15-9/29!

Now if I could just get that DVC exchange for 9/15. We already have a one bedroom at Wilderness Lodge Villas for 9/22.

I saved on Universal Preferred Annual Passes, two years for the price of one, for both of us from the RCI website a few weeks ago. We purchased our 7-day Disney passes from RCI with points, which we will upgrade to annual passes. Then I used an AC to get Wilderness Lodge Villas, and paid only $218 for our airfare on Frontier from Denver non-stop.

This is turning out to be a cheap vacation. I just need that week of 9/15 and it will be complete. There are lots of choices, but I was holding out for a DVC.
