Delta Frequent Flyer miles expiration?

I see that my Delta miles expire in 2009. Is there a way to extend the expiration date? I am trying to build up miles to go to Europe. Thanks for your help.

Yes, do you belong to Skymiles dining? Eat out and have the points credited which should extend the miles. Make sure you pay the check with the credit card attached to the Skymiles Dine Out acct. With AA I did this with a car rental and dining out.

Just add your Skymiles # to a car rental, send someone flowers or buy 1000 Delta points. Caveat is you must do this through the normal Delta site to get credit except for the Skymiles Dining.

There has to be some kind of activity on the card and the dates will be extended.

You have choices:

1. Get an American Ex Delta card. I think they are offering 17,500 miles for joining and the first year free.

2. Do one of thier partners.

3. Fly Delta.

Make your choices early for your flight. Delta saver fares are harder to come by since they started the Delta Choice. Delta Choice are double the miles.

Expanding on talkamotta's response, any activity in the account (e.g., using miles, earning miles, buying miles, donating miles) will extend the expiration of all miles in the account by a full two years from the date of that activity.

Since we just took a trip on Delta, would that be why the expiration is 2009? Oh, this is good news. Thank you all.

Delta Sky Miles expiration

We just took a trip on Delta also and we got a statement today showing that our miles expire 12/09 also. I am curious about this too!
Thanks everyone!

I hadn't flown Delta for some time and about 6 mos. ago, got a notice my miles were expiring with an invitation to go online and pay $50 to have them extended. Since they were at least a free ticket's worth, and I didn't see any upcoming trips soon (I'm always of course encouraged to select the lowest fare for work travel, which I do), I thought it was worth it and did so. Maybe they'll offer you the option and you have enough miles to consider it worthwhile.
