SkyAuction - What Exactly is Meant by Major US/European Carrier?

Hi. I am looking to see if I can get airfares that would allow us to take a trip to Costa del Sol in Spain in early April 2008. Travel party right now consists of me and DH, little girl, and elderly parent. Another parent may also go but not sure right now.

On SkyAuction I see ONE auction currently that would get us from our preferred local international airport to Madrid. Listing says airlines would be "Major US and European Carriers", but no names listed. Also no mention of how many stops/layovers/total trip time. Is there a place where I can find out what I could expect for real flights? I do know the dates I want so if I call Skyauction would that get me any additional info (I am guessing not but...).

Thanks.

I have won two auctions for flights to London with the words 'major us carrier' and one was American and the other Virgin. The way it works is that after you win the auction and tell them your dates, they will come back with the flight and airline. If the offer is not exactly what you asked for, you can back out. We had asked for flights after 7pm and they gave us 9am so we said no thanks. A few days later, much to my surprise, they came back with what we wanted. The only thing I am not sure of is that if they offer exactly what you ask for, whether you can back out. My sense is yes but I don't want to give you false info. You might call and ask them.

Thanks for the info! Can you tell me how many stops were along the way? I will be traveling with a child and an older parent and the less stops the better

I have 'won' quite a few flights through SkyAuction and they have all been reasonable itineraries on recognizable carriers with only one stop if not non-stop.

Thanks - that makes me feel better This is just so new to me that I don't know what I don't know yet and am afraid in my ignorance that I'll make some really horrendous arrangement for my family!

hi, has anyone used skyauction to book a cruise or a 7 night stay in a TS? went on the site and it looks toooo gooood to be true. what are the drawbacks? when you book one of those 7 night getaways how do you know where you are going and what woill be available? i tried ptting in random dates throughtout 2007-2008 and also different locales and the only place that came up was the dominican republic.

please give me all the input you all have .airfare is with major lines , are there 3 stops to get you to your destination? or do they have non-stops in the mix? what about holiday weeks/

We booked a condo (timeshare)in St Maarten through Skyauction. It was a good experience and got a great deal! After we got home we found a $30 charge on our Visa for some fee...notified The condo resort who called RCI and it was resolved. We would definitely do it again.

We booked a cruise for the next year only to find out 3 days after booking that our daughter was pregnant and due to deliver the same week! I was panic-stricken as they say there are no refunds, etc. But after several communications back and forth with Skyauction, they told us they would let us out of the cruise with a note from our daughter's Dr. stating her due date...we recieved a refund minus a $95 "change fee" which was fine with us. We were just glad to be out of the committment.

RE:cruises on Skyauction....do your homework...know what the prices are on the cruise website so you can recognize a good deal....keep in mind that "Buy it now" cruises are the same price you can get them for elsewhere. Certain cruiselines don't allow other sites or travel agencies to discount their cruises...Royal Caribbean and Carnival are 2 of those.

Skyauction.com

We booked Allegro in Nuevo Vallarta w/them a few years back when they have a subsidiary called Bid4vacations.com.Everything went smoothly,I wonder where they got all their inventory? Timeshares maybe! With skyauction, you have to be kinda flexible, they have only a few dates for each resort.Try to pick the country first, then pick lodging, there will be a few 7 nights resort auction available for you to try for your desired location.A little hard to explain--you have to go on the auction itself and see if the place that you want is on that particular auction. You do need some time and patience in the beginning.Pls remember to read the auction CAREFULLY inc. all the small prints. The 7 nite resort stays and per nite hotel stays have a service charge on top of your bid.Sometimes it's quite fun to to surf over there..........Have fun!Angela
