So I had a unit on hold that I found on the RCI website. Confirmed it within the time period yesterday. Today I check to be sure it was registered and lo & behold it's NOT confirmed & RCI has instituted an ongoing search for the region in which I had found the unit. I cancelled the search and now will spend some time online to see if I can find the same resort, date & unit size before I call a guide. It's funny how there wasn't any error in collecting the $164 exchange fee!!!
 
Maybe RCI found a non-member who wanted to rent that unit you tired to confirm, which made them more money, so you had to play second fiddle.

When we exchange through RCI, at the time we book the unit and pay the exchange fee online, we immediately get a confirmation that we print. Then later they e-mail us the confirmation. If you printed yours, that's proof that it was confirmed and they should be obligated to honor it.
 
Maybe my error

in that I didn't check for confirmation or maybe I clicked on a wrong box? I never noticed any box that says release this unit and begin an ongoing search though....

I did see the unit & week online this am so will try to rebook it tonite.
 
Not sure, but I think if you let a hold expire, an ongoing search is started. Or maybe it's if you release a week it starts a search. My memory isn't so good today.

got it back

I did find the resort and week after cancelling the ongoing search and then re-searching with the unit once it was back in the bank. I confirmed it immediately and the process went perfectly this time.
 
Whenever I release a hold, RCI always kicks in an ongoing search immediately, then i have to cancel that also, what a pain!!
