I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask but here goes.

My daughter wants to do a road trip within 7 hrs. of our home. I think she may like Cleveland with the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and being on Lake Erie.

Has anyone got an opinion of Cleveland? We have never been as 7 hrs. is a long drive.

Thanks.

anne

The people I've known who lived there loved it. So I just know it's very livable, not sure about tourism. I would think there's enough interesting stuff to do to make it worthwhile for a road trip.

Did you look at the tourism site?

http://www.travelcleveland.com/

Or how about Pittsburgh? We were there a couple of times this summer and there's a lot to do.

I was born and raised in Cleveland but have been away for years and years. (In fact I need to get back to see my Mom and brothers.) It gets a very bad rap as "The Mistake on the Lake." We saw the R and R Hall of Fame when it was pretty new. We enjoyed it.

The "Flats", I believe, is the happening place. Shows what I know...From Virtual Tourist site: " The Flats used to be the place to go club hopping on the weekends, but things have changed a bit in the last 2 years or so. The crowds that used to dominate the Flats and its clubs have moved on to the "Warehouse District", which is just about 3 blocks or so up the hill from the flats. The best way to describe the East Bank of the Flats now is that the typical sights there are cars/SUV's with at least 20" rims. If you are going to the East bank of the flats, carry a 40oz beer bottle and wear a huge gold chain, and you will fit right in."

Thanks for the replies. Someone told me Oprah did a thing on Cleveland in her mag. this month but I can't find it online. She praised it as a place worth a visit.

Anyone else have an opinion?

Check out the magazine at the store...........

We live in Cleveland Hts and love the area! Unfortunately, you never know tourist things where you live....

Cleveland has a great art museum, gardens and Severance Hall home of the orchestra.

These are all near Case Western Univ. I met my husband at Case so Cleveland has always been very dear to me. I am trying to encourage my son to apply for school there but he is not interested in going to Cleveland :(

My DH graduated twice (undergrad and masters) from Western Reserve. He was not too happy with the merger with Case, but went ballastic with the new logo. He wrote the President a very long letter. He wouldn't donate any money. I guess a lot of other alums didn't like it either since CWRU stopped using it.

Personally, I think your son is smart........

Yes, we are old!

Just got back from downtown Cleveland. Saw Arsenic and Old Lace at the Ohio Theatre and it was one of the best plays I've seen there. We have a great theatre district. We visit the west side of the flats occasionally (comedy club and Power House), but the east bank has never been my thing.

We have the Rock N Roll Hall of fame and Great Lakes Science Center. On East 4th, there is a Hillarities, lots of restaurants and a Blue's club. I think the dinner/brunch River/Lake Cruises are starting to wind down for the season.

Currently, downtown traffic and parking is a mess. They are putting in a tram/bus thing down Euclid Avenue and all the streets are torn up. Went to see Robert Klein at the Comedy Club a few weeks ago and even he joked about the demolition.

The Art Museum is shut down this year for a complete renovation. The only time they are open is when they have special exhibits. The Zoo is great, complete with Rainforest.

Personally, I wouldn't drive that far when the weather is cold.
